Final Test to decide if i keep the phone.

Thanks to all that commented.

Of course... battery didn't make it.. not even close.

I will consider carrying a second battery.

As far as the suggestion to that blackberries do not do what an evo does... that's an interesting arguement. Especially when it's suggested to strip the evo of all the extra features in order to for the battery not to die. So... turn off wi-fi... turn off bluetooth... turn off 4g... and gps. So basically.... turn everything off that we pay the extra $10.00 for and you guys are happy with this.

Interesting.

Well... as its common to say on this forum... to each their own.

As a sidenote.. the blackberry is a smart phone. It allowed me to keep bluetooth on, keep gps on, tether, sync emails, and keep data always on.

I never have WiFi, Bluetooth or GPS turned on unless I am using them even before I got the EVO. Why would you have things on that your not using? I turn my cable/TV off when I am not watching it, I pay for cable, HD and HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, The sports package... So because I pay for it should I just leave it on all day even when no one is home or if I am outside in the yard with the kids? Just because I am paying for it??? I also turn off lights in a room when not in use. Heck I have programmable thermostats that basically shut my A/C and/or Heat off Monday - Friday from 9am - 4pm because no one is home to save money (like battery life on my EVO) Should you HAVE TO TURN THEM OFF to save battery? Not really... It probably should not make that much of a difference weather they are on or off....

As for the Blackberry fans out there... My wife has been a proud Blackberry toting member for 4 years now (She just upgraded to a new one when I got my EVO) and she has to charge hers every night if she wants to make it through the whole day tomorrow. Not to mention AT&T, Sprint and Verizon all have shown that Blackberry users typically use a heck of a lot less data than your typical iPhone or Android user. I can't find the article again (one that came out when AT&T announced their new capped data plans) iPhone users and Android users typically eat up 8 - 10 times the data as a Blackberry user... The reason for AT&T capped data and the EVO $10 tax. That is why AT&T says that 90+% of their smart phone customers will actually pay LESS per month on the Capped plans....

If your Blackberry can go 2 - 3 days on a single charge then switch back to a Blackberry. But your not going to get the quality web & video experience.... Yes, to each his own.... And also you pay for what you get.... With the EVO your damn sure getting a much richer data experience but at the price of battery life.. Or go with the Crackberry and get better battery life and less rich data experience... Choices, Choices, Choices......

But when I can get a USB car charger adapter for less than $10, and an AC charger and 2 batteries for $15, basing a decision on this one thing seems silly to me.

Where did you get an AC charger and 2 batteries for $15?? I had an extra battery with the Pre and it was invaluable when I found myself away from my charger (most days I can "top off" during the day). I actually conned/guilted the Sprint folks to let me keep the battery when I had to exchange my Pre for for the third time, so I am spoiled since I got that one free. Where is the best/cheapest (I know those aren't the same!) place to get an extra battery for the EVO? Any help would be appreciated.

Actually, I remembered wrong. It was only $10! But that vendor now seems to be including a couple of cheap screen protectors and has raised the price to a whopping $13.50! The charger has a USB outlet, too, so you can charge a battery in the phone at the same time you charge the spare.

I bought a couple of batteries for my old Treo from one of these Hong Kong outfits. Based on charge life, I estimated them at about 80-85% of rated capacity, but the price is certainly right.

I just got my $10 order today. Once I get them charged up, I'll let you know how they work.

The first week I had the phone, I was one of those guys very frustrated with the battery life, trying all the tips and tricks I could find. Nothing seemed to do the trick, and I felt like I was using more battery life actually taking the phone out of sleep just to check the battery status and running stuff.

So, I bought this from the local Sprint store. Although I haven't had actually used it in any way other than plugged in, it has an internal battery so you can charge anywhere.

For whatever reason, my battery issues seem to have disappeared. I haven't changed any of my usage behaviors, other than actually checking the status less. Now I keep GPS on, use WiFi when at home and 4G everywhere else, and I'm making it through the day easily.

I kept the EVO and i purchased what JM22508 suggested. Love this thing... and thanks man.

Hard to give it up once you get used to it! Also try Automatic Task Killer. You can choose what tasks the program kills each time the display goes off (and at what length of time to wait before killing). Seems to be pretty effective to me. For those programs you open and use once (i.e. don't care to have them remain open after one use), it's a battery saver, IMO.
