I got tired of waiting for Froyo. I have always have been scared of doing anything to my phone. Well, the kids are gone tonight and so is the wife, haha. Poured myself some crown and coke, and started on my quest. The root actually took me a while to figure out. I finally figured out the drivers portion, lol. After that it was a breeze. Thanks to everyone who helped me on my adventure, XDA, unrevoked, Skyraider, and AC!

Now rocking a rooted DInc with Skyraider Vanilla 2.5! Woohoo

Now, what to do to the phone? Lol

I read your post and laughed out loud... I did the exact same thing last week when the wife & kids were gone for the day!!

It was a combination of multiple things. If you need the stuff that I used, just shoot me a PM.

Heh thanks. I am trying to build the nerve to try this myself :) I need three more posts before I can PM anyone.

I plan on doing this tomorrow night, I have read a ton, this is really different then updating a BB OS, I would love to hear the process you followed.

Here are some of the links that I used.

unrevoked
How To: Root the HTC Incredible (Unrevoked Method) | TheUnlockr
How To: Load a Custom ROM on the HTC Incredible | TheUnlockr

I used this guys videos...way better:
YouTube - Droid Incredible - One Click Root
Then these for the ROM:
YouTube - Droid Incredible Install Leaked OTA PT1

Let me know if you have any questions. Again, the rooting is easy with unrevoked once you do the driver part. I uninstalled HTC Sync. That is what my problem was. Then just follow the steps on the pages and videos.

I said the same thing this past weekend...except my fiance had to bear with me being glued to my laptop for a day. I did it and now I am running Skyraider 2.5.2 with an all white launcher theme... here is a screenshot. The front is the new google voice command thing and I am still figuring out what to put below it.

ooops sorry the thumbnail is so small... n00b :-D

Well, I just loaded my second ROM. That was quick. Liked the Skyraider Vanilla, but I miss the Sense. So reinstalling the Skyraider Sense as we speak. The biggest pain in the arse is reloading the apps and setting up the phone. Oh well.

Titanium backup / nandroid backups / appbrain. One of these apps or a mix of them will make it to where you don't have to have that pain in the butt.

Dang, this is ridiculous. I am addicted to this now. Just updated my radio to 2.15, and installed the SSUV5 Kernal. It's so easy to do. Literally took me 30 seconds to update both. Lol.

I am going to purchase the premium ROM manager to play with the ROMs. Maybe I'll do a splash screen next. I don't know. This is fun. HA!

Yeah it can be addictive. Just don't jump in too over zealous or you will end up with a bricked phone. Especially when flashing those radios.

Oh, for all of those that are scared/timid/shy/etc of doing the Unrevoked Forever, don't be. It took 30 seconds to do. It's as painless as updating the radio and kernel.

Did some tests with my current setup:

1392 score using Quadrant Standard
37.729 MFLOPS/Time 2.22 Secs/Norm Res 5.68 using Linpack
Capped at 58fps using Gears for Android
1585 kbps DL / 667 kbps UL using Speedtest (I'm out in the boonies at work)

Good/bad?

Pretty good!

1250 Quadtrant
37 Linpack

Myself but I don't have an O/C'd kernel.
