The app is called "JustFlip".

Ingenious and super simple, it requires that you "flip" the phone in your hand (essentially a 180 degree rotation) to turn the device on or off (you can adjust both "roll" and "pitch" too).

Works extremely well and the app is FREE.
What sets this apart from other apps like Autocreen and Awesome On/Off is that this "rotation movement" is not easily replicated by virtually anything else I do with this phone (ie; taking in/out of my pocket, picking up off my desk, putting in my gym bag, etc.). Ive use the aforementioned apps and I found them to be too sensitive to other movements, making for inadvertent/unintended ons and offs.

I have it set just to turn it ON with this movement, as I rarely find myself wanting to turn the device off, manually. You can set for on and off, as well.

Have yet to test/determine its effect on the battery...

This reads like an advertisement...

Never knew turning a phone on/off using the power button was an issue for people. And how in the world would you get any app to control the phone while it's powered off?

I don't think he actually means powered on and off. I think he means turning the screen on and off, ie. waking and sleeping the phone.

Ha! I assure you...there are no referral fees coming my way...
Yes apologies-I meant turning the screen on/off (i guess its "sleep").

I found/find having to reach for that awkwardly placed button, incredibly annoying.

I want that double tap that the LG G2 has. That is awesome! I'm sure someone will port that out and I'll be the first to get it!

Right now I use auto screen on. It's a great app. The only annoyance I have with it is that it just seems to come on at times and then not go off killing my battery. Doesn't happen often but it happens.
