Is it true that the 13K setting is louder?

It is definitely louder to my ear.

I tried this setting, EVRC-B.
I made two phone calls...it made a popping sound in my ear while it was ringing. I didn't notice any more call quality during the calls.
I changed it back...

I made the same two calls after I changed it back (and the mandatory reboot, of course) and the popping sound went away and things went back to normal.

Your mileage may vary....I'm in SE Michigan.
