I've owned the Thunderbolt since April and have enjoyed it but never to the extent as I think I will now that I have rooted. Tonight I have gone to the dark side friends.

Same here. The security issue pushed me back to root. So much better, and great battery life. Love it.

Congrats! You will enjoy loading custom roms. Warning though, it gets addicting. ;-)

I finally finished flashing bamf forever. Whew. It's awesome. But man was that time consuming for the first time.

I want to root so bad, just nervous about doing it. Don't know where to begin!

I did it with youtube. It was the way to go. And from a sticky in the Rooting section when I flashed a rom. It took a LONG time, but it honestly was very easy. I say go for it.

I'd do it for you... but it would be better if you were assisted. I'm creating video tutorials for just about everything I can think of android related. The only thing I won't be doing is device specific rooting. I am available for help just about anytime though.

Much to the contrary you have gone to the enlightened side. Have fun with it and if you every need any help PM me. If I don't know the answer I'll point you to someone who does.

Start with the Revolution program for your computer then just follow the instructions in the forums, its a lot easier then I thought it was. The devs out there do a way better job than the ones at HTC and VW.

Other rooted users: What kind of battery life improvement have you seen after rooting? I haven't tested it out yet, just curious.

depends on sense vs aosp, and what your kernel settings are. I'm getting wonderful battery life with my cm7 1.4Ghz overclocked tbolt.

I finally rooted mine after months of running stock. and Im loving it. It seems like my Bolt does more then it was doing before or Im just paying more attention to it now. Either way its like brand new again and I cant put it down. Once I get bored with it I guess Ill check out a new rom. But Im still new to all this. I always thought rooting would break my phone or something.

That's good to know. I may have freaked out and bricked the phone by pulling battery if I didn't know about the long wait time. About how long and what step causes the wait?
