I’ve had issues in the past, but the Pixel 8 pro was pretty good. I agree the Pixel 9 pro is much better, and on par with the S24 ultra

I have a problem with the P8P during the night. If I want to check my phone and I'm slightly off center of the fingerprint I get blasted with that dang bright light.

I do not remember any issues with any. It is getting harder to remember my phones tho...The Pixel 5 and the P Fold I use currently had pretty much 100 % success rate. They both had readers in really convenient spots.

Not a fan of it being on the screen of the phone.

I remember having issues with previous Pixel phones, which improved as updates came. The Pixel 8 Pro was ok from the start but got excellent after updates.

The Pixel 9 Pro is flawless and may be better than my S24 Ultra.

Strangely, my Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra tablet has a very inconsistent FPS. I'm still trying to figure out what's up because the S8 Ultra was flawless.

Interesting, I personally don't have any issues with the Tab S9 Ultra, works great and almost 100% of the time. It also has an ultrasonic fingerprint, just like S24 ultra and Pixel 9 Pro right?

Boy, I guess I'm the only one that is having issues with the new FP reader. I am upgrading from a P8 Pro. The optical FP reader was definitely a problem for me. It got better with the updates, but I would only have about a 80% success rate with it on the P8.

Now I have a new P9 Pro and the FP reader is actually a little worse for me. I'm really disappointed. I have a couple of Samsung tablets with the ultrasonic FP reader and they are super reliable with a near 100% success rate.

The P9 is probably around a 70% success rate with the FP reader. I have registered my index finger 3 times (using up 3 of the 4 slots). It still sucks.
I've been a Pixel user since the Pixel 3. But for the first time I'm thinking I may have to send that one back for a refund and go back to the P8.

I'm having the same problem. And the face unlock isn't liking me half the time either. I'm coming from the P8 Pro also. Although, my P8P worked very well.

I've tried 'adding' the same finger twice, so now I have the same finger registered as three different fingers.

I do have a screen protector, as I did with the P8P and have the setting for increased sensitivity to On.

If I could have my wish come true, I would love to have back the function that allowed unlock in certain physical locations, but that hasn't worked for the last several Pixels.

I just set my home as a trusted place on my Pixel 9 Pro XL and it seems to work. When I set it up it said something about it would stop working after 4 hours of inactivity and then I'd have to unlock it again. I've not tried using this before. Are you saying the feature is just not very reliable?

Thanks, I didn't even bother to try it on this phone since it hasn't worked in so long. From memory, I have tried on the P6P, P7P & P8P. Wouldn't it be funny if this was the first phone that worked for me AND I didn't even try it?

I would try to re-enroll your face again in good lighting, face ID has been stellar for me
The face ID on my P9P XL has been great too and it was great on my P8P as well. I didn't have an issue with the fingerprint reader on my P8P even after installing a glass screen protector. The fingerprint reader on my P9P XL doesn't seem to like the glass screen protector. But since I have face ID enabled as well the phone seems to unlock instantly. In other words, I'm attempting to unlock the phone with the fingerprint sensor but I think it's the face ID that's actually working because when I cover the front-facing camera and just try to use my fingerprint sensor, it fails most of the time.

That's good to know. I have tried twice, but I think it's because I wear glasses..sometimes. I only need them for reading, so half the time they hang from my neck and half the time my hair is tied up.

I'll try again in very good lighting. Thanks.

Pretty much the same for me. My P8 Pro FPS improved dramatically with updates over time to the point it just worked. I don't think that the new FPS on my 9 Pro Xl is any better.. Face unlock has been brilliant on both models. I too wear glasses occasionally but set up face unlock without them on.. HTH.

I'm in the same boat. At the moment my Pixel 8 FPS and Face were both more consistent than my 9. I have yet to get my 9 to unlock with my finger in a dark room too, for some odd reason.

Have you tried registering your fingerprints again?
