I admit to knowing zero about how fingerprint sensors work, but is it possible there could be a way to use a regular touchscreen like on the G4 to read the print? Not going to trad my G in for a phone that has one, but it would be cool if it could be done.

There are some rumors that the next iPhone could utilize such tech, but with the existing technology in the G4, I don't believe it's possible.

I don't really know about fingerprint sensor tech, but I do know regular phone screens have no way to read anything but the electrical signal from your skin (much like a touch lamp). So no, it's not possible to have the G4 read your fingerprint.

There are "finger print scanner" apps you can get, but they are a false sense of security. They don't actually read anything, and only respond to how long you leave your thumb/finger on the scanner image.
