Has anyone had a problem with this, until the last update all was well, never had a problem, updated S21 plus on Monday and now it won't recognise my fingerprint, so annoying.

I've definitely noticed it's not as good as when I first got it. I think I will have to try setting my fingerprints up again.

Mines has been pretty good even with my screen protector on. I would try resetting your prints.

As I said I've had no problems until the last update, also as far as I know my fingerprint hasn't changed

Well, has it occurred to you that while your fingerprints may not have changed, the update might have adjusted the detection algorithm in a way that means their stored data is no longer valid?

There isn't much point us trying to help you if you're not going to follow perfectly reasonable advice.

It 100% is the new update that breaks it! Mine isn't working 80% of the time now.

Also confirm that re-registering your prints works, although is bs that you have to do this

I can confirm this too, I thought I was the only one and it was driving me crazy. I have registered the same fingerprint for all four slots now, it works flawlessly initially, and then a few hours later its reliability goes down.. It only works about 70% of the time at best, compared to 99% when it's initially registered. Certainly like not you see on the review videos. Looks like it's a software thing because the reliability is spot on initially and then fades over time. It's just a hassle having to reregister the fingerprints every single time because all of the apps that require biometrics then require you to log in again.

Mine's nothing like when I first got it and I've got the Zagg protector I probably have to redo my fingerprints I haven't done it yet. My husband said his isn't the same neither but not that bad he deals with it cuz he loves the phone so much but I think I'm going to try to redo mine. my husband said he knew there was a setting that had something to do with sensitivity in a screen protector and he finally found it. Mine will say press harder.

Are those having problems using the Snapdragon or Exynos versions? I don't know if there is a difference in the way the FPS is handled between the two.

I've not yet received the Feb update, so I can't comment other than to say that my FPS was remarkably fast and accurate before I installed a screen protector. I hope it doesn't get worse with the update.

as I said all was OK until last up date, it's clear that a few of us having a problem,

I'm on the US Snapdragon unlocked version.

Mine installed the original January update when I turned it on the first time, so the problem goes back to that.

I installed the Feb patch this morning and it hasn't made it better or worse. Just the same.

I'm running it with a Whitestone Dome on and with increased touch sensitivity turned on. I also reregistered the print after installing the Dome as per the instructions.

To be clear, it's not a deal breaker like the abomination in the S20 which was useless. It's just a minor irritation.

I don't think anyone is denying the problem. People are just offering possible solutions. The software has changed. Re-registering your unchanged fingerprints with the new, changed software may make the new, changed software better recognize your unchanged fingerprints.

Re-register your fingerprints. That is all it needs. It's stupid I know but it will work.

My S21 fingerprint reader works VERY good. I use my right thumb. Phone unlocked 99% of the time on the 1st try when I first got it. Way better success rate than the S9 back fingerprint reader I had previously.
I installed a glass screen protector (type that uses UV cured adhesive) on the S21. Turned on "Touch Sensitivity" in settings. Reader was failing a lot! I deleted and re-entered my fingerprint. Unlocking now works about 90% of the time. Obviously failure of fingerprint reader has been negatively impacted by the screen protector.
It's a minor annoyance to me and I can live with it. I'd rather have a screen protector than 100% perfect fingerprint reading.
Same. 100%. Sometimes it takes two or three efforts but it's still way less irritating than trying to unlock an iphone with a facemask then having to punch in the pin number (which you had to do until the most recent update).

Without this whitestone dome glass, I'm sure it would be much better but I'd be constantly paranoid about scratches.

It's extremely irritating. It's almost so bad I would want to return it for just that one reason. I could have my finger on my S9+ as I was pulling it out of my pocket and it's unlocked before I even have it out of my pocket. Now I have to look at it, place my finger just right and hope it works on the first try.

After installing an Amfilm glass screen protector, my success rate dropped a good deal. And nothing happens unless I press much harder. However, I spent some time re-registering my prints in a very careful, systematic manner. I placed (for my pointer fingers) or held (for my thumbs) my phone in typical unlocking positions. Then I worked through the process, very deliberately shifting my fingers slightly from their central unlocking angles. Then I tested them with the "Check Fingerprints" tool. If I wasn't getting close to a 100% success rate, I'd start over.

Now I have 4 fingers that work almost all the time. I just need to build up muscle memory for hitting the sensor squarely.

After the last update, I re-registered my fingers and mine is working great. Very happy with it!
