Fingerprint Recognition

After the last update, I re-registered my fingers and mine great. Very happy with it!

It's weird but mine doesn't work well in the beginning when unlocking the phone but when it asked me to do my fingerprint for a couple of my other apps did I want to enable it it works good. But I had to set up a pin for my work email to work so I can just use that in the beginning but when I'm at home it's supposed to go straight to my home screen anyway.

Feb update installed. FPS still great. My right hand gets my finger in the right spot 97% of the time without looking. My left hand is a 90%. But my right finger has 2 copys while my left has only one, so maybe thats why the right finger can open it faster and more angles for me.

I dont press hard on the screen, i just softly press it. Works great.

Would you say the FPS is working better or about the same after installing the Feb update?

My 2 cents is after the Feb update, if you re-register your fingerprint it works the same if not a little better. This is with a glass screen protector on and my personal experience

That's good to hear. I'm very happy with the FPS with the original firmware, so I didn't want to see it degrading with any future updates.

Seconded. I'd say it's about the same. No better, no worse..

FYI i dont have anything on my screen. No film or glass protector.

But id say after the Feb update the FPS is a tiny bit better.

I did do an experiment last night and deleted some fingers and tried reregistering them. And something odd did happen where the screen where you register your finger it kept kicking me out back a menu and it wouldnt register my finger past 30%. It kept saying move my finger a bit, but the scanner wasnt lighting up to scan it.

Before the Feb update it never did that.

I will say when i first got the phone, the FPS worked amazingly no issues. But after the first update it didnt work the same. And now with this second update which is the Feb update its a getting better but still not as when i first got the phone.

Just incase some of you are not aware, you can check for updates to fingerprint scanner and face under settings>biometric>more biometricScreenshot_20210213-121117_TADownloader.jpg

I only reregistered my right hand thumb print to see if there was a difference and I'm not seeing that it's much better. It could just be the learning process of shifting from a real fingerprint reader. It's still frustrating at this moment.

So I don’t know where everyone lives, but when the weather gets cold here, my hands get drier and I absolutely notice more problems with fingerprint readers.

I can’t imagine the hardware is degrading in some way on the phone.

Let’s wait till spring and see what happens.

I'm in California so it's not cold. It's definitely a software related issue because it works perfectly then seems to drop off a cliff, then comes back sporadically. Is very bizarre.

It's weird sometimes mine works right away and other times it says press harder and takes a few tries after getting the Zagg put on. But I deal with it cause I love this phone. I even deleted and re-added I have 2 sets of the same fingerprint now.

Edit: I just deleted both and just did one and it seems a little better but not like before I got the protector.

Your hands might me dry. Use some moisturizer that seemee to work for some

Overall, I'm happy with where it's at. I was even able to use it while wearing a latex glove the other day. For the most part, it's comparable to what I had on the S9+, which is about all I could've asked for. Hopefully it stays consistent!

I definitely need to use moisturizer to keep my hands smooth. Without it, my skin cracks on the tips of my fingers and makes fingerprint reading nearly impossible.

One other comment...the screen, without a screen protector, I find very "slippery"....I really need to put some pressure on my thumb to make sure it stays still...do you guys note the same thing?

I just applied my favorite screen protector (which really only protects against minor scratches), and the operability seems better. I have been using the IQ shield protectors for years. I returned my Note 9 the other day and the screen looked as good as the day I bought it, 2.5 years ago.

I put a gypsy curse on the new update because I'm pissed that they don't allow it to download over my data plan....muaaahahahaaaaahaaa.... Your phone will also self destruct within the next 24hrs if your don't revert back! :D

I was just thinking today that the fingerprint scanner works so good that I almost don't want to believe that it's secure because I can lightly tap it so quickly that it feels like tap-to-open without even scanning anything... Huge improvement over the S20 for me and I didn't even double scan fingers this time around...

Nope. One light tap and I'm instantly in. I like a slippery screen for swiping and playing games. A non slippery screen will make your fingers sore if gaming or doing a lot of swiping.
