Fingerprint scanner discussion

I actually find it useful and quick to unlock with one hand when using my thumb. I have gotten to a point where I can do it without even looking directly at my phone when I'm grabbing it. I'm sure everyone's experience will vary. I did notice however, that you have to adjust your swiping motion depending on the type of case you have compared to no case.

Probably my favorite feature of the phone, beyond the camera and screen, is the fingerprint reader. It's very easy to use. It is 100% accurate with my index fingers when holding the phone stable or when it is on my desk and about 95% accurate one handed with my right thumb.

I do wish you could program more than three fingers. I used 2 of the slots for my right thumb (different angles) and 1 for my index fingers (so that it works with both hands). I honestly think it is heavily underrated and unless you don't care about security, I'm not sure how you can call it a gimmick (like the heart rate monitor, which IS a gimmick).

Two things...I can't wait for app developers to program apps that use it so that my App Lock runs off fingerprint instead of passcode or pattern (which is easily hacked). Secondly, Applke's version is better but Samsung's is better than nothing. I would give Apple an A (not an A-plus because of still existing degradation issues) and Samsung an A-.

Anyone had issues with the scanner not working when the phone is charging, mine isn't even recognising that I'm swiping, as soon as I remove the charging cable it unlocks first time

Maybe a setting somewhere?

I think I have operator error.I have finger print setup ok.And I have it to use finger print for lock screen.
However the only time the phone wants to use finger print is AFTER I turn phone off and back on?Shouldnt it be using finger print to UNLOCK the home screen all the time?
Thanks

I won't say it's accurate 100% of the time but once you develop a certain method as far as angle and speed it works out with one hand. It's certainly quicker for me than entering a passcode or password

You have to go to Lock Screen settings. Go to the bottom that says Secured Lock Time and set it to whatever time limit. I have mine on instant. After the time frame your finger print will be required to unlock the phone. If you have it set to 3 mins for example to finger print won't be required for 3 mins of no use even with the screen off.

If anyone else has this issue, I fixed it by deleting all fingerprint scans and setting up a new one.

I think it's a godsend to thieves ... they no longer have to screw around torturing you for the password or pin ... they just knock you out and swipe your finger once to unlock it and again to confirm the change of fingerprint ... all the same bye bye phone

Mine worked fine...but I use the Delayed Lock app and that's not one of the choice...at least not yet.

If you're actually worried about that... you've got bigger (mental/paranoia) issues....

Just setting up the S5 and wrote off the fingerprint scanner as a gimmick. I set it up to use my thumb so I could unlock it one handed (otherwise, it's much less useful).

SON OF A GUN IT WORKS! Not 100% (first time swipe is maybe 40%-50%), but even if I have to swipe down two or three times, it's still faster than the Face Unlock I've been using, plus it works in the dark. And that's going to get higher with practice. I'm actually really happy about this -- from what I read, I thought it was going to be frustratingly unusable.
