Fingerprint Scanner issues

On my s6 it was working amazingly well, unlocking in fraction of a second, in any finger orientation. Then I went hiking for 2 days with a rugged case on the phone, and finger print stopped working for about a week (with or without the case). Then it started working again, till I went on another hiking trip with the heavy duty case. I should also note that whenever I hike, I'm on airplane mode.

In other words, it seems to me that putting a heavy duty case makes the finger print not work - both with and without a case. Retraining your fingers makes no difference. I will see if it starts working over time again.

S6 fingerprint scanner works well when training print but does not work when you want unlock. This will be my last samsung.

I had similar issues, for the first 5 weeks, the scanner was flawless. Then, it started to degrade in performance until finally, I had to enter my password about 90% of the time. I never got an error message. I tried rescanning the fingerprints multiple times, but it did no good.

I tried the Samsung support chat, the first guy I got started walking me through some troubleshooting procedures before the chat got cut off. I tried again and the second guy was worthless. He told me I'd have to wait until the next software update. I wasn't happy with that since you never know when AT&T will issue an update.

If I were you, I'd give the chat a try, just go to the Samsung website and click on support.

If that doesn't work, do a factory reset on your phone. I did that about 3 weeks ago and it's back to working like it did when I first got the phone and I'm again happy.

I've been using fingerprint scanning on the S6 since it came out. I've never had a problem and after the first week I've never had to enter my backup password.

Just as good as the fingerprint reader on my iPad Air 2 as far as I am concerned. However I've heard some people have prints that can be harder to scan.

Should there be smoke coming out of my cpu?

That happens with mine as well. I also have a tempered glass screen proterctor on it but i dont believe its because of that. Its def in need of an update or my fingers are always dirty...lol

I've never had it throw an error, but I've had issues sometimes with it accepting my print. Sometimes it would work flawlessly and sometimes I would have to reposition my finger to get it to finally read it. I tried wiping and resetting my prints several times but still encountered the same inconsistencies. I wondered why it seemed to be so wishy washy at times, and then the thought occurred to look at my fingers. I work in an environment where the skin on my fingers can sometimes get roughed up a bit, and sure enough the fingers that the scanner was having problems with had their prints a little scuffed up. That's why I was having to reposition them to get it to read. Anyways, I just thought I'd toss that out there. As far as vertical vs horizontal positioning, I mapped my prints all vertically though the scanner has no problem reading them if I position my finger horizontally. It's able to detect the print regardless of orientation.

Same here, mine gets worse as time goes on to the point where I need to redo all of them again. It's getting very annoying.

Initially it was off and launch but a week after it's been working perfectly since then.

What I've learned:

1. Keep 1 print per finger, don't double up...it just makes it run slower to unlock and causes confusion for the OS.

2. When setting finger move around in all different angles really helped.

I tried that yesterday. It looked like it worked for a minute but today it's back to being super annoying. I'm so upset.

Hi Brent. I've experienced the same problem with my new Samsung S6. The solution was simply to go to Settings > Lock screen and security > Fingerprints - and add an additional fingerprint. With the same finger! If you have an unstable fingerprint recording of your thumb on your first attemt, record your thumb again. It's like an oversampling. It truly works overwhelmingly good.

Mine went from barely working to not working at all. Tried everything. Not sure why it would get worse wroth time but these are the things that turns me off to Android phones. It's a shame too because I had high hopes for this phone.

My solution was to record the same finger, my thumb, as multiple prints. I record it vertically and then horizontally and I've had a lot fewer fail to scans.

Mine works about 80% of the time or so. Have 2 thumbs and an index finger set up. Seems intermittent in performance. When its working it works, but then itll just get funky for a couple days outta nowhere before apparently fixing itself?

It's the rails. You have to have electrical contact with the rails for the reader to work reliably. I stuck a piece of foil between the case and rail and left enough sticking out to touch with my hand and its like a whole new sensor now. (Not that this is a permanent solution)

Good call - just found out reading the reviews of Amazon protective cases - one person updated a previous review - and I've been looking to find this out - and this is the only place I could find any mention of this issue. It makes sense but we need to find a protective case shaped like an X that protects the corners but leaves the middle open to hold.

I don't have the option for fingerprint scanner on web sites. From video's I have watched I see an option in settings for web site log in. Anyone have any idea why I can't see this option. My carrier is Verizon. I have edge 6s

Only works for websites that have it setup to use finger print sign in via Web page.

For those having troble with changing their screen unlock method....when it doesnt accept ur password.....try only entering the first 16 digits of ur password and no more. It only allows a max of 16 characters in your passwords apparantly and it cuts off the password at 16 characters. Yet it allows u to wringly enter more than 16 characters at the password prompt! argh! 2 hours of wasted time bc of that. Fingerprint scanner still wirking inconsistantly though.

Ive been having issues accessing my phone via the fingerprint scanner. I have entered my finger multiple times only to have ever it work for a while then start to fail at scanning. Most of the time it's just not working but other times it comes up with an error message. I have a tempered glass screen protector on it have set it up with it on so I don't think it could be the issue due the working the progressive failure. Any ideas? Thank you
