Fingerprint scanner shot and inoperable

Looks like my fingerprint reader died. I get the message:

"There is a problem on the fingerprint sensor. If this message occurs repeatedly, restart your phone."

I tried restarting my phone, clearing fingerprint app data/cache, and finally a factory reset and I still get the message. I'm guessing the fingerprint reader died and it died from the heat of the V10 as it gets hot like a frying pan, especially near the fingerprint reader.

Looks like I'll be taking a trip to the T-mobile store. Anybody have experiences with warranty issues/phone swaps at T-mobile? I switched from Sprint where they would charge you 50-100 to swap it out for a refurb.

phone insurance is a complete ripoff. It costs more than a used phone replacement. Almost as much as a new phone but who wants a new old phone. My phone is under warranty and the issue is related to a defect (whether its a faulty sensor or design flaw relating to heat) so i'm not going to pay more than the deductible if anything at all.

What design flaw related to heat? When does the phone get hot? Playing games? Recording video? Just sitting there doing nothing? Mine runs completely cool unless I'm taxing the CPU or GPU.

Hope you get it fixed. "Hot like a a frying pan"... you don't mean that literally do you? Is your phone too hot to comfortably touch?... like a scalding bowl of soup? That area of my phone gets warm charging with 9V, full screen brightness and streaming video. The otterbox defender doesn't help much either. I usually chose to charge it with a standard 5V USB out, it seems to charge a lot cooler (and slower) that way.

I am starting to think the aluminum bezel around the camera also serves as a heat sink.

I have been paying close attention to how this phone manages heat. So far I have been very impressed. With basically no heat-sinking properties at all, outside of the camera bezel and maybe the stainless edges. (FWIW stainless steel, as far as metal goes is generally a thermal insulator not a conductor). Having previously owned a Sony Xperia Z3, I was always combatting heat issues with that phone. So the V10 trounces the Z3 in this regard. Overall my V10 runs very cool.

So thanks for the heads-up. I will pay closer attention to this now, knowing it could roast my FPS.

That fix sounds like it was more related to the case/touching the side of the phone issue which has many workarounds.
I get an error on my phone and I believe if a factory reset doesn't fix the problem, nothing will other than an internal repair which is why i will be going to T-mobile looking to swap it for a different one.

Yeah I never got an error message at all... my FPS just up and died.

Hmm, interesting. I got this message today to. I restarted my phone 2 or 3 times and eventually it started working again.

So I went to T-mobile at the beginning of the week and they ordered me a new V10 no questions asked because it was under warranty. Great customer service.
Its supposed to be delivered today. However, just decided to test fingerprint reader out again since i was in the settings....IT WORKS! Go figure. Can't explain why. Don't know if I should exchange mine with the new one sent? Sometimes you get a refurbished unit that has its own issues.

You have a 50/50 chance to get a new one being that this phone is still rather new. I would lean more towards brand new than refirb.

They didn't have one in stock? If they did they should have replaced it in the store.

They sent me a replacement but I haven't picked it up yet. As I mentioned, my fingerprint reader works again and no haven't had any problems the past few days since the replacement was ordered. I'm leaning towards keeping my old one so I don't have to setup everything again. I think it will be fine. One thing I should say is that its possible touching the fingerprint reader with water/moisture on my hands may have caused it to be temporary inoperable. I can only guess...

My fingerprint button went doa yesterday... It rained all day and I was semi out in it. Taking to tmobile today

I have alarms going off every 5 minutes in the morning so I make it to work. So I have my phone with me to dismiss the alarm when I'm making breakfast and taking shower. So every morning while showering I am hitting fingerprint button to turn alarm off. I may have been hitting it with water on my hands. I went to the store and had a new one sent but several days later before it had arrived, my fingerprint reader started working. Maybe it was moisture related and if it was maybe it took a few days to dry causing it to work again. I haven't had any problems with it since and don't snooze it with wet hands on fingerprint/power button anymore. Hopefully yours will work in a few days. Might want to wait a week before going to Tmobile to not deal with the hassle of resetting everything back up/transferring data.
Still debating if I should pick up replacement at UPS that was sent or let it get sent back. I'll wait to the last pickup date to make up my mind.
