Android Central Question

Fingerprint Sensor on S9+ stops working completely on a daily basis until I reset device. Not sure if it's an application or something causing this. Pop up notification on Locked screen perhaps?? Anyone have any suggestions I could look at?

First thing we need you to do is create an account, then post back here letting know you've done that.

You're asking a question about a device that....99% of us.... have yet to even see in person? If you're not trolling, is there a plastic protective film covering the sensor? Any trash on it?

I recieved my S9+ yesterday and i have exactly the same problem. Need to restart in order to get it working again..

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it isn't wide spread and can be fixed via a software patch

Same problem for me. I received my S9+ two days ago and few times a day fingerprint scaner stops working and need to restart phone.

Same here. S9+. Sensor works fine for a few hours after a reboot, then fails both on the lock screen and in the settings page. Probably gonna take it back for a replacement on Monday.

Looks like I won't be using the FPS then. Never used it on my s8 so no loss for me.

1. This is the only post that comes up when searching for this issue on Google.
2. Preorders arrived yesterday in most of Europe

Back to the topic at hand though, I've deleted all the fingerprints and re-added them, and it has worked perfectly since my last post.

Did any of you happen to add the same finger more than once (in different positions) before experiencing this issue? That's the only weird thing I did while using it.

The issue came back. Seems to have something to do with calls. Every time it happened, I had just made/received a call. Perhaps keeping my finger over the sensor during calls or something similar triggers it?

I tried to reproduce the problem by calling my old phone, and answering a call from it, but no luck. Has anyone else tried anything?

I agree. Considering that a reboot always fixes it, there is a 99.9% chance this isn't a hardware issue. However, software engineers need a reliable method to replicate the bug in order to even begin thinking about fixing it. I think we should be working towards finding clear reproduction steps.

I live in Sweden and got my phone the 9th, whats the problem droidxclone?

Also i disabled all other lock functions, iris, face reck etc and so far the FPR havent stopped working for me.

Hmmm... interesting. Three AC users have used their first post ever to validate the "OP"'s problem with the FPS. Amazing, actually... four people with an unreleased phone posting here.

My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with a girl who saw Ferris pass-out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it’s pretty serious.

There's a whole other world outside of America. And we have had our s9's for a few days now.....

I've no issue with the finger print scanner. I didn't have an issue on the S8 either. I do have an issue with the iris, face recognition in that I can't get it in the right position to recognise my face. I think I'll just leave it at Iris and finger print. When the Face recognition works it is very fast, it's just hit and miss where it can't find my face! I've had the S9 Plus since Friday. Love it apart from that though.

Managed to replicate the issue twice by keeping my finger on the fingerprint scanner while inside a call. I still don't have the exact conditions needed but I'm getting close. Some help with testing this would be appreciated. What we need is a clear list of steps that trigger the bug 100% every time.

Not Trolling as you can see, first time ever using a forum for assistance so took a chance... Problem still continues up to now... Changed prints, no change. Glad to see all the responses on my post, good to know i'm not the only one...

This news is discouraging. Several previous S-series and Note-series phones had similar widespread problems with the FPS and/or iris-scanner, and Samsung either failed to ever fix those problems, or took months to do so. The Note8 seemed to have escaped the difficulty, but apparently it's back again in the S9.

Update on my lone efforts to pinpoint the bug: finger does not need to be on the reader during the call. I think the other person needs to answer and the call has to be longer than 30 seconds.
