Fingerprint Sensor Question--Pulling Phone Out of Pocket

As of right now I'm considering the Moto Z Force or Pixel XL as my new phone. One thing I really want in a new phone is a fingerprint sensor. The number one advantage I see is the ability to reach into my pocket, cover the fingerprint sensor and pull it out of my pocket unlocked and ready to use. A couple of questions:

1. Is this technique possible? Can I cover the sensor with my finger/thumb in the pocket and pull out the phone ready to use?

2. Fingerprint sensor on the front of phone or back of phone would be best for this technique? (Note: I always place my phone in pocket with phone's screen facing my leg and top of phone goes into pocket first. It seems to me with this pocket placement the rear fingerprint sensor would be better.)

3. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of front and rear fingerprint sensor placement.

4. What else do you use fingerprint sensor for beside locking/unlocking the phone?

I just figured out today that I can unlock my phone and wake it up at the same time by using the fingerprint scanner on the back....

Unless you have super baggy pockets, cargo shorts maybe... you can't really reach the fingerprint sensor as you reach into your pocket.. With a front sensor it is super easy since you basically "pinch" the bottom of the phone as you pull it out and your thumb naturally lands on the sensor. This is assuming you put the phone top down into your pocket.

Now, it's not going to make THAT much of a difference either way.
You wear hipster tight pants or something? Lol - no issues here in work pants or jeans. On the fingerprint and ready to use when pulled out.

its pointless arguing about front vs back fingerprint its what works for you that you need to get.

back obviously has the benefit of natural position when picking from pocket or even if its lying flat on the table. when you pick up the phone your finger is naturally positioned.

front has the advantage that it can be used when on a table.

I take my phone out hundred times a day and sometime keep it on table
I will take that 100 convenience compared to once in a while inconvenience of picking up the phone.

so for me i prefer back

I actually came from front sensors with Samsung and did love the desk convenience, but I've shifted to a simple pattern instead of a pin, and set my car bluetooth as a trusted device so it's easy to use in the car dock. 👍

I now prefer the rear finger and I thought it was something wouldn't like!

(TWSS?? lol)

I had the Moto Z Force and sold it and now waiting for my Pixel to arrive. It was my first with a fingerprint scanner. I liked it but having it on the back I think is more natural except for when it is resting on a table. For me the Force was too heavy and the screen too small. With the style skin it would not stick to a magnetic car mount nor the sticky pad on my AirDock which worked great for my Nexus 6. I also think I will have a better software experience with the Pixel and faster updates and compatibility. Plus I REALLY wanted a white phone. The Force was white and gold. not a fan. My last few phones were white and I like that with all me tech products if possible. Printer, google glass, Nexus 6, chromebook, etc...google home when I order it, the snow VR headset.

I owned the nexus 6p .... my gripe with the fingerprint reader on the back while on the desk did bother me some.... but after testing what it would feel like.... opening the phone using your middle finger to curve around the back while it's on the desk ..... is actually a ******* ultimate solution to this all.... like .... try it... front grip and let your middle finger touch the back.
