Installed Xionia v1.2518.6
Everything went well.

Preformed my first backup:
Backing up boot...
Backing up recovery...
Backing up system...
Backing up data...
Backing up .android_secure...
Backing up cache...
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Generating md5 sum...

It has hung there for the past 25 minuets.

Suggestions please

Pulled the battery. (No choice)
Restarted phone
Tried again
This time it hung at Backing up system...
Am I missing something here?
Maybe third times a charm. I'll give it another go.

Try repushing the recovery through ADB. That may help. Could have been a bad push the first time.

Well, third time was a charm.
Not sure what was going on there. Maybe an SD card issue.
Time to flash my first ROM.

I've had problems like that in recovery too when i try to flash things or create backups, I eventually found out that if your battery is close to dead it won't let you do anything and will give you an error message of some kind.....Then I plug it in and it works like it's suppose to.

That's really good information, thanks.

I made sure that I had a full battery before I started, I didn't want to run the risk of anything happening as a result of the phone dying due to a low battery charge.

Things got kind of busy so I still haven't flashed a ROM yet. I want to make sure that I can give it my undivided attention my first time round.

Flashing a rom only takes about 2-4 minutes. Your past the hard part! (installing the recovery)
From here on out, everything should only take a couple of minutes and most of that time is waiting while the phone boots into recovery, flash rom (takes 1-2minutes) (or whatever your flashing...kernel...flashplayer...themes!), waitng for phone to reboot again normally!

Just make sure you always do a nandroid in case something screwsup! The best part about nandroids you can try anything and recover from it! Almost....LOL

You would be wise to re-format your card.

Get a micro-sd adapter and pop that in a Windows PC and copy all the data over to
your hard drive, then fully re-format the sd-card as Fat-32 (slow format, not quick)
then copy the data back over to your sd-card and pop it back in the phone.

Best to do this while the phone is off.
Side benefit of doing this: Fresh format + defrag'd SD card!

If it's got any kind of trouble writing to the SD-card - you could have bad sectors developing.
Some SD cards are very fickle.

Thanks DoesItMatter that really seems to have made a huge difference. When I turned my phone on the SD card was mounted much faster than what I am accustomed to.
