first drop bricks phone

Another one bites the dust. My wife dropped her Z3c from about two feet up onto CARPET. And it was in a CASE. Screen shattered and, of course, touchscreen unresponsive.
Wow, that is really unlucky. Are you sure you haven't got a dud? We have had a catalogue of accidents with our Zs (Z3 and Z3C). Honestly, you wouldn't believe it. Initially we both only had film protectors on the front and back of the devices. I threw my compact down the carpeted stairs onto a wooden floor. I then knocked it off the worktop onto the tiled kitchen floor. Next the Z got dropped onto our neighbour's wooden floor - Mrs K flipped it out of her bag when looking for a book. Not a scratch on either device. However I thought we were tempting fate, so I invested in a couple of Ringke clear cases. Since then the Z has taken another tumble, and my compact got knocked out of my hand and landed, corner first, onto concrete. And you know what? I wasn't even that worried, I was pretty sure it would be OK. Not doubting you at all, just pointing out our somewhat different experiences. I guess we have just been lucky.

Of course having said all of that, no doubt I'll drop it again tomorrow and it'll smash into a thousand pieces!

Not trying to sound ignorant but I have to write to this. It seems like a lot of folks drop their phones somewhat regularly. What's going on with that?

I hardly ever drop phones either. I dropped one years ago...it was outside and it fell five feet onto concrete and smashed...wasn't even in a case. So that one makes sense, I deserved that one. I agree with you, though, phones are valuable and I always take care of mine.

I dunno, man. This is now the 3rd broken Z3c in our house. The first got wet and died instantly (waterproof my ****). That one was replaced for free, thank goodness. Then my replacement was laying next to me on the couch. The cat knocked it off. It literally slid off the couch onto the floor and screen cracked. Ruined. That one was also replaced for free (guess I'm lucky, too) Then the third broken one was my wife's which was in a case and fell about two feet onto carpet and shattered. That one was NOT replaced. :-(

Maybe I've actually gotten three dud phones, anything is possible. But I do genuinely believe that the Z3c is simply more fragile than other phones on the market. I still have my second replacement and I'm treating it like a porcelain doll. I even put a wrist strap on it and keep it on my hand whenever I'm using the phone anywhere.

I love this phone and everything about it. But damn am I nervous about it now.

This is the 2nd time in less than a week that I've read in the MN forums that a cat was responsible for phone unhappiness. ...and my daughter wonders why I will not tolerate the little monsters in my home.

Dropping most phones, glasses, bottles will break.
Get insurance or some case to protect.
Phones are fragile, extra care should be taken.
There are phones out there that can take a punch, but with lessor functionality
