Just got it a few days ago and these are the early issues, nothing a deal breaker but frustrating.

1. So many background programs like skype and city maps which I don't use. Got the fro application killer and use it to kill selected apps and they are all back within ten minutes even without using the phone.

2. Press the top keyboard lock button but once I put it in the case (using my old blackberry case as size seems right), the phone turns back on and different screens pop up all the time.

3. No missed call notification or voice mail. Even the message icon doesn't show you got the messages

4. YouTube constantly tells me a don't have a connection when I do. I can go browse the net but try to watch a youtube video and get the error message.

5. Battery life is horrible with all the background stuff going on. Guess it has to be hacked (would never try it myself) to get programs off that came with the phone.

Just a few observations comparing to the blackberry.

There are certain tasks that respawn, that's why so many recommend against task killer apps.

I get missed call and voice mail notifications, as well as text and emails. They appear at the very top of the screen.

I have never had a smartphone with impressive battery life (Treo 700P, Omnia, now Droid 2), I can't understand why so many complain about that, just charge the device more often.
I have a USB cable for charging in both of my laptop bags (work and home), I charge it over night, and in the car.

The old Blackberry case has magnets in it. This invokes the Car Dock on the Droid. It will go back to sleep shortly, but if it agitates you, you'll have to lose the case with magnets.

Didn't think of the magnet issue. Thanks, ordered a specific belt clip one today on ebay.

Skype, Social Networking, etc... are in the background using O% of your cpu resources. I don't use task killers at all, but I do use Astro file manager which has process manager built in and all of those processes have zeroes attached to them.

The engineers who design the OS, as well as some very well respected developers within the Android Community have stated that task killers do more harm than good. If you have a rogue application that you feel must absolutely nuke, then use the built force stop feature. I would be weary of using Moto's FB and Twitter applications. Those appear to be prime suspects of high battery drain.

I just switched from the Droid to the Droid 2 and I can assure you that my battery drains noticably faster than on the original. I even did not download a task killer onto the new phone after hearing negative reviews. The only thing that I have changed is I am using the droid eye as wallpaper. Maybe thats draining it.

1. I also have an issue with not registering touch screen when I try and push a button sometimes.

2.It lags a fair amount.

3. Also, the biggest problem I have is the Alarm doesn't always ring for me. Even though I don't have vibrate checked, it vibrates instead of playing the ringtone! I have a very hectic schedule and work alot of split shifts and live by the alarm clock.

I have noticed that you must give the battery time to settle. It took about 5 days and I let it completly deplete a couple times. Now I am getting a full 12 hours out of a charge with moderate usage.

You may have not had a device with good battery life but others have. I had a 9700 Blackberry Bold and I would consistent get two and a half data of use from it. That is a really big difference. Also, not everyone has the luxury of having the ability to charge everywhere they go. I don't. It just gives you a peace of mind when you know that your phone isn't going to die on you when you need it the most.

If you dumbed down your Droid to the same level of sophistication as a BB, you would probably see comparable battery life from it. The Droid 2 uses more battery life than a BB the same way a Porshe sucks more gas than a Toyota Corolla.

I wouldn't say going from Android to Blackberry OS is dumbing down, but I do see your point. lol.

I had both a Blackberry Storm and a Blackberry Storm 2. Both had horrible battery life even in comparison with the Droids I have owned. Well except for the Incredible.

My Droid 2 has a far superior battery life to either of the Storms I had.

hope this helps you from a former d1 users/blackberry/webos/dumphone user

Well, if you dropped the Droid's resolution to around HVGA, downclock the processor to max out around 500mhz, display only 65,000 colors, use zero widgets, use only one homescreen, stay away from the YouTube client, and only browse using Opera Mini...

Pretty much just setup your email, and only send IMs and textr. Then, you would see comparable battery performance.
