Not sure if I should post this here or not.......got this tweet from @aospbot....
Samsung to provide Apple with quad-core A6 chip for next iPhone https://t.co/Gas6aQvx

Long days and pleasant nights...............

Ka-el will be introduced sometime this week or next week.... and you can best believe that chip (Tegra3) will make its way into handsets before the Iphone X is even mentioned.

It might be introduced first, but which OS will be updated first to handle it?

If you guess google, you will be wrong. How long has it taken gingerbread to get on more devices then Froyo? And GB doens't even have full support for dual-core processors. Not sure if ICS has support for quad processors, but I doubt it.

There is really no need for quad core processors. Dual core is still very new, and single cores are still very speedy.

Sent from my amazing galaxy tab 10.1 which also eats ipads

I don't believe that for the fact that since apple is sueing Samsung and dropped them and went to another manufacturer for their current chips.

If an OS is multi-threaded it's multi-threaded, no need to change it for more cores. You don't need a different version of Windows just because you swap out a dual core chip for one with 4, 6, or 8 cores. ICS will be ready to use 4 cores out of the box.

Quad core chips will provide immediate benefits - they can even better handle mutli-tasking (including less battery use), and they will be on a more advanced die process (i.e. smaller transistors) so they will be much more energy efficient even when not all cores are running.

I'm not saying people should wait just for them, but they'll bring tangible benefits right away when they start showing up in phones (although there are other bottlenecks that will be as or more important to phone performance, like the GPU, the memory speed, etc). Also, for people who want to see true desktop level apps they will probably be necessary (and items like Moto's webtop environment will greatly benefit). Plus, we're going to start seeing mobile devices become replacements for PCs and consoles, and it will require quad core chips before this sort of ecosystem really takes off.

Unfortunately the first quad core to hit devices (Tegra 3) is still based on a 45nm technology, and I think the gpu is only slightly improved.

I'm personally waiting for the first phone with a good 28nm chip. Until then my Droid 3 that I got for free (thanks insurance!) Will have to suffice.

As for the iPhone to get a quad core made by Samsung, I've also heard similar rumors, also that it is based on a 28nm technology with LTE on chip which is what Apple has been waiting for. I don't see whats happening in the court rooms effecting their business dealings too heavily.

They've already shown Honeycomb running and utilizing 4 cores. Don't see ICS dropping that :p

GPU should be about 5x as fast, and the T3 should finally be able to play decent video thanks to NEON. It's a good hold over. When the quad core 28mm chips ship, there may well be an upgraded T4 looming, and then others after that, etc.

ASUS Transformer 2 will be the first quad core mobile device to market, followed by an LTE HTC and or Motorola device for ATT.

Lets not forget that Texas Instruments is also launching a quad core chip in January as well.

iPhone barely came out with a 1ghz dual core lmfao they're definitely not making a quad core anytime soon. apple is like Steve jobs...dead!

Wont happen, the next yPhone wont be out for another year, and I expect HTC to drop KalEl in the end of the first Quarter, and Moto to drop an OMAP too. I bet Sammy has a exynos-bird quad dropping about the same time as well. I can see LG dropping a new Tegra 3 in Q1 before everyone else.

That chip with the old technology and the "slightly improved" GPU made the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime scored over 10,000 on Quadrant...

IT'S OVER 9000!!!!!

First off, That's not even Quadrant, it's Antutu. Secondly, benchmarks don't really mean anything unless you know what you are looking for. I bet you the I/O score makes up more than half of that bar. But nonetheless, don't base your decision on a benchmarking software.

I would much prefer to see a die shrink on dual core and have dual migrate to mid-range phones - you can have quad core on a phone.
