First time buying unlocked, have questions

Well, I figure, of I'm going to pay cash for it, might as well go unlocked and unaltered by Verizon(bloat and disabled features)..Just want to say good decision on going unlocked

Super simple to swap. I'm on verizon too. I normally wait about six weeks and go into a store and ask for a new sim. There's never any questions or issues.

I'm on Verizon as well and for years, I only buy unlocked versions using it without any problems. Just load the Verizon Voice Mail from the Galaxy Store, not Google Play Store. Right now I’m using “YouMail” free version and really like it.

Do I even need another sim? I'm on the 20U now. And yes, it was insanely easy to get up and running..I shave done this long long ago

I cannot engender remember what store I downloaded it from, but it showed up pretty much on its own, in my list. Installed, and boom! Back in business with the voicemail...
I actually am pretty happy with the upgrade. It seems much smoother to me for some weird reason. I basically just set it up, charged it, and haven't really delved into the new features as of yet(except the Samsung dex on my TV, which was cool). I suppose I'll be doing that over the next week or so..

I always get my new unlocked phone completely updated to the latest OS and security updates before I put my sim in. You get all the updates without carrier interference that way. Otherwise from my experience once the sims in and the carriers set you can only update to their latest allowed updates..... which isn't always the actual latest.

.... I think that's Verizon being just conservative and nothing else in my opinion. But if it eases ones mind sure use a new SIM if you can get it for free by dropping into a store.

Lol, but will those goofball give you a new sim(5G) for free? Especially with it being an unlocked phone. I was wondering about this actually, because, as you see on my screen capture, it shows a 4G+ icon. I looked it up a little and was trying to figure out exactly what it stands for. Is it 4G or 5G?Recommended not needed.... I think that's Verizon being just conservative and nothing else in my opinion. But if it eases ones mind sure use a new SIM if you can get it for free by dropping into a store.
I'm honestly not dying for 5G anyhow, as I've read how it's affecting others battery life if it's continuously searching for that signal(much like 4G used to be).

Is there any impact on the service capacity on unlocked devices and carrier branded? I know people say that carrier device comes with bloatware and carrier branded apps.
I've seen carriers say that service capabilities are limited
when having unlocked devices. That carrier branded have certain settings that improve service which unlocked devices do not. That's what I've been told when I have speed test issues or SMS send/receive issues. Are they just saying that to discourage owning unlocked devices?
To me, they're all the same devices and carrier versions have all their branded apps and specific carrier settings making it only usable on with that carrier. Unlocked allows you to take it to any carrier. Service shouldn't be affected.

With the unlocked version you lose the video call function with the native phone app You'd need to use a 3rd party app to video call.
