first time getting a new phone after switching to esim

I checked with my mobile company (Mobile X) and they said to call when I get the new phone with the IEMI and they will get it switched over. My Zfold 6 has an esim only, no physical sim

The question I have is should I do smart switch before getting a new Esim for the 7 or after I get the new Esim for the 7? I know smart switch transfers settings. but don't know if it will transfer esim settings and screw anything up. So if anyone has done this how did you handle it.

I would activate phone first myself.

It will ask you to set-up the Esim during set-up so no worries there
