I am running 2.0.1, DM updater and was running helix launcher. I am still on 2.0.1 and DM because its easy and i like the tethering and over clocking which I use at 800mhz.

I have being using DM since it came out and helix launcher for about a week or 2 and just yesterday or 2 days ago my Droid began to lag. Here's some things it would do weirdly:

1. take a couple swipes or a couple seconds to change home screens at first, then go quicker after the forst change.
2. my messages is lagging. I never have the proper name displayed for the most recent text. It sometimes just displays numbers. It generally takes longer then usual to load the messages and go back to home screen.
3. Took it off the charger this morning at 8:30 and now its 40% (3:13pm). I listened to some music and then it sat in my bag during a baseball game. So wtf???
4. Also, widget redraw is slow for the first time.

Recently I have installed some LED "banner" wallpaper things which i soon deleted. Also I have installed the Touch keyboard from HTC which is about 4-5MB and News Room in the past couple days.

This is the first time my Droid has ever really slowed down on the home screens and this bad in the messages app. Anyone have any idea? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Unroot the phone and go to the real 2.1 update, and see if that gets rid of your problem. My Droid has never lagged, and I have never needed to overclock.

Just a suggestion.

+1. Stock is where it's at! Never a laggy moment here.

Thanks for the suggestions guys but I have been rooted for a long time now and its always been snappy, thats why im so confused now.

I deleted helix launcher and running my stock launcher and the redraw is still slower then a couple days ago. I also deleted all my messages. I may switch to 2.1 or cyanogenmod but I am still curious what is making my phone slow down the past 2 days.

Borgey401, I went along the lines of your thinking and just reflashed the DM 1.0 and now the phone is running fast as ever. Still going to check into cyanogenmod though. I have heard nothing but good things.

you couldn't pay me to go back to stock android. You guys bragging about stock 2.1 are really missing out. If you install CM, be sure to install the file from the google addon link under the rom so you'll have all of the google apps. Just put it on your sd card and choose install zip from sd card after you've installed the rom.

Also just switched to the Desire port and it's pretty smooth at 1Ghz.

Have you tried just clearing your caches? I clean mine once a week to keep things snappy..

That looks pretty awesome, I might want to try that? How stable is that? and do you like it over straight android? I feel the HTC widgets are too big for what they are, like they always take up the entire screen.

I'm running the latest CM update because Koush added Apps2SD support. Switched from Pete's BB ESE81 stock (but rooted) update and couldn't be happier. Everything is just as smooth and responsive and I can store apps on my SD card.

No way I'm EVER going back to stock.

Awesome, good to know. I think I might have to do this. I would have to uninstall DM then re root and then install CM from the market.

Yep I did it manually once. I did it under application/management and did it one by one. Is there a clear all?

You should be able to download rom manager, install clockwork recovery, wipe cache and data flash the rom. You may need to download a bekit or p3 kernel though.

I'd say it's as stable as any of the other roms. Haven't run into any force closes and it's really smooth. Most of the HTC widgets are definitely on the large size but they have various sizes for things like the music player, calendar, favorites, etc. The browser seems to be a little slower than stock android but it also gives you Flash lite like the Hero, Eris and the Incredible. It also has some issues not showing paid apps in the market (Docs to Go, Touchdown) and you pretty much have to turn off the mobile data network and use wifi if you want to make/receive calls. You also can't turn wifi off and back on without having to reboot. They should have a beta version soon that is fully functioning other than bluetooth according to their forum on alldroid. http://alldroid.org/forums/914-Greek35T

See this is the only part that holds me back from doing this is I dont know what bekit or p3 kernel is.

So i download that kernel, along with latest version and google addon?, put it on my SD card and use rom manager to install it? does it matter free or premium rom manager? And honestly I dont know how to do a nandroid backup.

Everything you need is on ROM manager/rom manager premium. You download the rom first, install it, then download the kernel, and install it, all from rom manager. Rom manager does everything, even backing up your roms if you want.

Your screenshot is about as cluttered and overly busy as any I have seen. I prefer a clean, uncluttered look, so stock is perfect for me.

To each his own.

Unfortunately there is no "clear all" option that I know of, but did you just clear caches on downloaded apps? or all apps?

Ok that sounds awesome, I downloaded Rom Manager (does it matter free or premium?) but I dont see an option for nandroid back up. It will do it automatically?

AFAIK, the paid version just allows you to download the roms and kernels from within the app. You can use the free version but you have to manually download the rom and install. When you open the app, you need to select Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery. You can either go under backup/restore and choose "backup your current rom" or let the app do it when you go to install the rom. If you're going the free route, put the Cm rom.zip on your sd, choose "install rom from sd card", find the zip file you copied over and it should give you the option to wipe data/cache and perform a backup before install.
