FIVE weeks with the HTC ONE, NEW things i HATE. help?

Re: two weeks with the HTC ONE, things i HATE

thanks to you and the others for recommending flickr. i used to have a pro account but let that slide when i updated my photography site.

does this mean i would get rid of dropbox? i currently have my pictures backing up to dropbox, but as i may have said before don't take a lot of pictures with my phone. i still shoot film in the real world.

speaking of onboard storage...can anyone help me with this? i went to check my battery and accidentally hit the storage button. what it revealed was a little disconcerting to this novice. of the 32GB of storage available on this phone, 8.6GB was being used and nearly 7 of those GB were being used by 'other'. what the heck is 'other' and why is it hogging my storage space?? pic below...

thank you!!

I may be wrong because it has been ages since I had android, but I believe "other" is the HTC's Sense OS and its add-ons. No way to get ride of it outside rooting and installing a bare OS.

Re: two weeks with the HTC ONE, things i HATE

I've tried both Dropbox and Flickr for photos.
In my opinion:
Flickr - 1TB which is for ever. Dropbox is for 2 years and you got to pay.
Flickr - Photo oriented. If you want to have people see your photos or if you want to share them to forums and stuff it's easier. It has a nice interface, it feels nicer to share your photos there. Also has tons of info about the pictures, people can download them easier etc.
Dropbox - Much faster. Flickr seems pretty slow.
Dropbox - Easier management. With the Desktop apps you can just delete the 309430492304930 photos you took last night much faster than with Flickr. The same goes for the site. Deleting and moving stuff from your browser is easy.
Flickr - I had some error messages with the auto-upload. Don't know if it was a coincidence, but never had them with Dropbox.
Flickr - I never found out how to upload the Zoe mp4 video. You only get one photo auto-uploaded. Instead in Dropbox (with 4.1.2) you got the video and all the frames and with 4.2.2

So, after playing with both I decided that I will still use Dropbox as the auto-upload choice (I don't take photos every day, but when I do I take many) and then I upload the photos I want to share to Flickr.

Good method. Now I just have to use it.

Re: two weeks with the HTC ONE, things i HATE

Coming from an iPhone I've found it challenging too. The silly wake/sleep button is way too flush against the body. I agree the desk top software doesn't do that well on a Mac, I too have the spinning beach ball although it sometimes works for me. I would however stick with it as there are many things it does really well, I think it's all about getting use to these phone and their little habits..

With regards the play store, t's no where near as good as iTunes but I see it getting better..

EDIT: these are the new things i hate. please, if you have any suggestions or solutions, i would love to hear them....i know part of my hate comes from my own ignorance about how to properly use this device.

1. i have my lockscreen set to 'no lockscreen'. it worked for weeks and now the lockscreen has returned. i did a restart to no avail. the only thing that has changed recently is the addition of three apps: airdroid, ES file explorer, and google keep.

2. can not change the snooze duration for reminders in the stock calendar. i think it's set to 5 minutes. worthless.

3. still don't have unread counts for textra with nova launcher and tesla unread.

things i LOVE:

1. battery live seems to improve every week...no longer a concern. (although today kind of sucky..about to die after 11h of use)

2. still no easy sync with my macs but i think most things are backed up to google and/or dropbox....less of a concern.

3. phone is fast and responsive.
