Fix for AT&T User's Slow Data Speed's! (Correct APN settings)

Thank you for sharing kingfrog, Im only holding out on the unlimited smartphone data plan b/c I have hopes that at&t will grandfather us into LTE when it goes live in many parts of the country and I'll get me by then an LTE device & can you imagine unlimited LTE on at&t :)

Problem with that is how are you going to be grandfathered into something that they arent going to put into the system.
There will only be tiered LTE plans in the system, an unlimited won't exist because they never had it
Like I said I only have hopes, in the end only at&t will decide if they'll grandfather current UL smartphone data users into a LTE UL plan.

Well there has to be something to grandfather you into which there won't be. It'll be one of the ways to try and get people off of their unl data

Well I think it is an end game Elite, I just read on another forum that soon at&t will begin to throttle all unlimited data plans after a certain threashold.

Here is the link: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1200758

All good things must come to an end. Now I'm going in the non-smartphone $15/month data plan.

Even tiered plans should be set at a limit of 5GB and it would be so much fare.

Galaxy SII on less than HSPA+ ATT data

Hi all! Just got a galaxy s II from expansy and loving it. Only issue so far is data when H+ is not available. Phone can have full bars on regular 3g and data will not connect. This happens often when I'm indoors

Right now I'm on ATT with 2.3.3 gingerbread. Data plan is 4g/tethering

Very strange, I hope you get this solved as the GSII (I bought mine too from expansysUSA) comes pre-installed with the media net APN settings when you put an at&t SIM. It should work everything (voice, data, sms and mms) as soon as you put in that AT&T SIM.

Question is are we going to have to do this when we get our hands on AT&T's version on Oct 2nd? :P

Sorry everyone, I havent got my SGSII yet but it's on it's way i will receive the white SGSII next tuesday, currently I have iphone 3gs, Do i need to go in AT&T store to get a new sim card. I have unlimted data plan too. Please help..I will be a new andorid user. thanks

The same SIM from the 3GS should work fine. Just call in to see if they (at&t) can remove the visual voicemail feature which is annoying everytime u receive a v.mail a txt msg will be generated.

Yes Wawa980,

now you can also downgrade to the non-smartphone data plan (medianet) for $10/month with the $20/mo ulm text/mms. You need to give them a dummy IMEI from a non-smartphone. Usually any feature phone on display at an at&t store will do. I gave them a Samsung SoliceII's IME on one of their displays and they downgraded me right away.

PS: be aware, once you downgrade to a non-smartphone plan, you'll loose indefinitely your unlimited smartphone data plan. I really didn't care anymore with all these throttling stuff going on. Good luck on getting you new GSII.

my ATT GS2 already is configured with two APN's.. ATT Phone (phone) and ATT WAP (wap.cingular)

This is the default factory config for the ATT SG2

Thanks for the guide - as with the above poster, I found my GS2 was also configured for APNs similar to the new ones you recommended, though I was getting nowhere near even 6MB/s speeds, I've been seeing more along the lines of 2-2.5MB downloads (I'm in SF Bay Area, fwiw).

I followed you instructions to create the alternate APNs, and selected the new "AT&T HSPA+" one as the active ... but didn't see any bump in speeds, still stuck ~2MB/s down, 1MB/s up.

I believe that San Francisco's already had the "enhanced backhaul" implemented, so not clear why speeds I'm seeing are so poor :(

btw, I was doing my network throughput tests from the phone itself via the speakeasy website, as I don't have tethering working yet.
