Fixing Sync Icon in Gingerbread

I think most of us were hoping to find a way to get rid of the sync icon without doing a full wipe at all. Let's just hope Verizon figures out how to fix it so the next release gets rid of the icon without a full wipe. I know it's best practice to wipe, but I was perfectly content not to. :D

I did a full wipe.
Fixed the issue.

I always do a full wipe and clear after I install a new update to the OS. Just makes it seem snappier and cleaner.

Like when you upgrade a computer from Vista to 7, you do a fresh install, not generic update.

Did full wipe, fixed the problem. Also noticed that my Juciedender was always showing 2x+ prior to upgrade, after upgrade and with sync issue it was dropping daily, was down to 1.6x. After wipe the battery is back to 2.x+ again so sync issue was definitely impacting the overall battery life by about 20%.

Sucks that Market can't recall your apps you've downloaded for free. Amazon AppMarket does without a problem, so big kudo's to Amazon for making it all work right :)

Not trying to be "that guy", but it does.

Always has.

After reading the multiple posts about the sync icon, I decided to do a factory reset before installing GB. Should be ok - right? Installed GB. Shortly after, the sync icon appeared. I left it on the charger overnight, sync icon still there. Took off for the day. My battery was completely dead in 6 hours. With Froyo my battery still had 30% to 40% remaining after the full day (Verizon extended batery). I also noted the phone was very hot all day.

I have since done another factory reset using the GB method (hold both up/down volume buttons). Of course that means I had to set up my screens all over again. The Update icon is now gone, and the phone temperature is back to normal.

So.... doing a factory reset before installing GB does not help. You should perform the factory reset as soon as the GB Update.zip process is done, on the first bootup.

I totally agree with him. That's exactly what I discovered the hard way. The second FDR enables Gmail to sync all the parts of your/my account in a timely way. Who knows, at this point, why this process hangs up in the primary install.
