Flaky WiFi Calling

Essential where I live with no cell signal, but WiFi calling seems to know when the call is most important and decides to fail. My LG G4 is on my desk right next to my WiFi router and its connection to the net is unaffected, but half the time, I'm unable to make a call. Anybody else?

WiFi calling on my Note 5 has been flawless for me.

WiFi calling is spotty on my Galaxy S5. I switched to a T-Mobile personal cellspot but still get a variety of errors and have to restart the router periodically.

Both my Note 4 and Note 5 with T-Mobile have had issues with wifi calling. When receiving a call on wifi, when I answer, I can hear them, but they can't hear me. Tonight, my mom, on the other end, kept saying she heard loud noises, but couldn't hear me. It will also drop calls. I'm not sure what is going on or how to fix it, but would love to find out! I hate having to deny or end the call just so I can turn wifi off.

The problem is that Tmo shuts off the wifi signal when your phone sleeps.

It will show that it is on, but it isn't. . When you answer a call when the phone is sleeping (assuming you have enough signal to get the call) walk to a window or somewhere where you know you get a better cell signal and your call will improve.

I had the htc S, it was flakey on wifi calls. . They put out an update and it was amazing, worked just like it was supposed to.

A few days later they came out with another update, Battery improvements they called it. . Wifi went to crap again.

After several calls to the tech desk, one of the tech guys says "thats the best it is going to be, we had to make a choice between the battery or wifi while sleeping".

Its been that way on every tmo phone I have had since.

I often get voicemails while the phone is sitting in my desk, about a foot from the T-Mobile router. I have to wake the phone up, give it a few minutes to connect, then I can make the call and it works great.

As I use it for business, I have had to make mention of it in my voicemail prompt so people don't get pissed and think I am avoiding thier calls.

Technically, Tmo has wifi calling. . Practically of it... . Not so much

Do you mean the wifi calling disconnects while sleeping or your wifi fully drops? If it is your wifi that is a setting on your device you can change under wifi > advanced.

WiFi calling with tmobile typically works well for most. The only time I've had issues was when I had my note 4.

I never had issues with WiFi calling while my phone is asleep and not receiving call or text. I use it everyday at school in the basement and sometimes at home. I know many others who use it which no issues at my college as well.

It would be incredibly stupid to automatically shut off wifi calling as soon as the phone sleeps. I'd never get any incoming calls and it would defeat the purpose. As far as battery life is concerned; I really don't care when I'm at home, where I need wifi calling, the phone is on the charger.

Sitting here without any ability to make or receive calls due to this GD wifi calling BS......Error REG99 "Unable to connect"

While in sleep mode, the wifi will also sleep. . Thats why you get the reg 99 error or sometimes you notice that only emergency calling is enabled.

This is a function designed to increase batter life. . Which it does.... But at the expense of the phone actually working as it should

No its on. . I have 4 Tmo phones, 2 LG-G3's, 1 htc one s, and a huwi basic smart phone.

It's the same on all of them. And Tmo techs have confirmed it when I first had the htc.

As it is a software issue, you may have a version software that it works on, or a phone that they don't have it set up that way on. . But most Tmo phones are set up to save battery.

When my G3's first came out of the box, the Wifi worked great. When they updated, they got the "power saving enhancement".

I see that At&t has been approved for wifi, it will be interesting to see how thiers works.

Go to settings, wifi, advanced, and ensure you have keep wifi on during sleep set to always.

You're right it's there for battery reasons but it is a function that can be changed. If it is doing it on all those phones I would say that the wifi you're on is having an issue more than the phone since it is 4 different ones. On all my phones I always have it set to keep the wifi enabled during sleep and never run into issues where it disconnects.

As I've said, it's on, on all 4 devices. .

Tmo has confirmed that they disable it while sleeping to conserve battery.

My guess is it is either only in certian versions of OS or phones.

When my G3's came out of the box with kit kat, it never turned off. Once it upgraded to lollipoop, it started happening again.

The same thing happened to my one s. . Never had good wifi calling, and could never get a straight answer from tmo. Then did an upgrade and it worked flawlessly. . I was finally happy with then phone and service.

The only issue was the phone needed to be plugged in most of the time do to battery drain.

About a week later, tmo sends out another update "to help with battery life". . It killed the wifi calling.

After a bunch of calls to tmo a level 2 tech confirmed, the way they preserve battry life is to over ride and shut down most systems. . When I asked if this included the wifi antenna, he said yes.

You can have it set all day long, in settings, but if they override the setting, there isnt much you can do with it.

Just have as part of your message "Sorry I missed your call, chances are I am sitting next to the phone. . But by using T-moble, I have saved a few bucks, but the phone does not ring. . I will call right back when my wifi kicks on"

they cant change the settings in your phone remotely. if you set it to be on then it will stay on. if this happens on all your phones then its your wifi thats not working properly...

My T-Mobile G4 has the option to keep WiFi on when screen is off and it has always been enabled. Hopefully, that's the equivalent of while asleep.

It's been on from day one.

As the Wifi Calling software is T-mo's creation and has nothing to do with the OS, they can do whatever they want in the background.

If you call the help desk and ask, they are told to tell you that it is something else. But if you work your way far enough up the service ladder, the truth is out there.

It has been this way for several years, It appears to be phone dependent, I have seen some phone models never have an issue, while others of a certain brand/model, all have the same issue.

I wonder if the Iphone on Tmo has the issue? As they push it in several commercials, I guess not.

AT and T just got approved for Wifi Calling, we shall see if that works better. If so, I may have to switch.

Sorry, but I can't make out the screen shot.

It just shows that the "Keep wifi on while sleeping" flag is set to yes

Could we get a clear picture. I've never heard of that option from anyone I've asked or know, nor have I've seen it on any phone I've had.
