Flashing LineageOS on the G5 (H850)

I have found it extremely difficult to flash LineageOS on my LG G5 (H850). It seems that LG changes that device every now and then, and the installation guides on the Internet do not fit any more. In fact, I have not found a single installation guide that matched my device. Flashing Cyanogen on my Samsung S2 was a cakewalk compared to this.

Against that background, I strongly recommend to double-check if you are willing to take such hardships or either stick with the stock-Android or choose another device. The whole process also involves some risk because unlocking the phone cannot be undone - and it results in the termination of LG‘s guarantee. It may also have the effect that apps using digital rights management may not work any more.

It may be wise to stick to another phone as daily driver until you have played around a few days with the lineage-G5 and until you have installed one or two lineage-updates.

That said, here is how I - finally - managed to flash LineageOS: I will explain it as a modification to LineageOs.org‘s installation-wiki for the LG-H850 (https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/h850/install) and for Linux.
