Flashing over a theme

I'm sure this is common knowledge to many, but it was a first for me.
I usually like to do clean wipes before changing ROMs and themes. But i really like the revolution theme and i've stuck with it. So today i flashed the updated version, and only wiped cache. The thing that i noticed is that I had the galaxy tab gmail.apk installed, but when i flashed the new theme, my gmail went back to the stock gmail. I dunno if this is a normal thing and it sure isn't a hard fix, just wanted to know if this is supposed to happen.

just reinstall the apk and delete the one you dont want.

you dont have to clear cache to flash a theme. you can flash one theme over another. you only have to clear cache if you flash a new rom.
