Flashing ROMs/Kernels

just realized, fastboot was enabled, could this have been an issue? I guess it checked itself after reseting the phone to factory

It still didnt work, I just somehow unrooted it by accident? I had the PG05IMG.zip file in the SD card, and it reinstalled that, so im back to square 1. Hopefully this time I'll re-unroot it and see if it works

The PG05IMG was supposed to be deleted after you had confirmed root. I wouldn't bet on this, but MAYBE that was the issue in the first place with backing up your stuff?

I did delete it first, and nothing. When I put it back in afterwards to troubleshoot, I ran it and it basically unrooted me, but kept my old version of sense 2.0 on there. I'm going to try to unroot completely, Format the SD Card, and start from Square one without setting anything up on my phone.

Formatting your SD Card shouldn't be necessary. During the process, only the info on your phone is edited. The only thing that changes on your SD Card throughout the process is the "PG05IMG.zip" file, which you do manually. Nothing will delete or change on your SD Card during the root process unless you manually do it.

Yeah, but I just felt like my SD card was so cluttered with crap apps that I would use for a minute then uninstall, and images were left behind I didnt want.

PS - Heres a weird thing, I can't even reset my phone to stock! It brings me to HBOOT and wont do anything else from there!

I'm not actually doing this myself, just trying to explain from memory.

If you go back to FASTBOOT from the HBOOT menu, Factory Reset will be an option on the list. If you scroll down with the volume rocker and hit your power button to select it, it should work just fine. Quick note on that too; if it does work, it won't have you confirm the reset or anything. It'll just start the recovery a couple seconds after you hit the power key to choose it.

Otherwise, MAYBE doing a reset manually through cmd/adb would work. Not sure about that so don't try it, but maybe someone can help out with that as an alternative?

-------------------------------------

Somebody wanna confirm/kill the idea that putting this into adb would perform a factory reset, please? If nothing else, this is for curiosity purposes. :p

> C:\[adb directory]
> adb reboot bootloader
> adb factory reset

Hopefully someone can chime in, I did try the first part, and nothing, and I dont want to put the wrong thing through adb. If I unroot, will it automatically wipe my phone anyway? Thats all Ill need to do then

Let's go back to the beginning quick: you tried to just hit "Factory Reset" from your settings screen, correct? Lol

yes, ofcourse. and yes, my computer is plugged in lol.

Lolol, THAT WAS MY NEXT QUESTION!

Really though, I think waiting would be best to see if that adb method would work. Or you could ask it somewhere else.

If you wanna do that, just copy/paste what I wrote and put it in the appropriate forum. If you do it, and get a thumbs up, I'll guide you through it (if it's within the next hour or two).

Just don't be intimidated. It's like 3 steps, and it will get you some familiarity with Command Prompt/ADB. That in itself a huge benefit for technology like this.

well, if you wouldnt mind, Im trying to just unroot for now, but Im getting permission denied when I enter in
adb shell su /data/local/busybox md5sum /data/local/misc.img
into cmd, any reason you could think of?

Honestly, I don't know THAT much about cmd/adb. I know most of the basics, and how to copy and paste. That's why I'm not confident in the Reset method I provided you, lol.

I assume you're following Cory's guide to get back to stock?

I don't know what happened. I just went into "recovery" and since it was always searching for "PG05IMG.zip" anyway, i put the one for unrooting there, and whent into recovery and installed it, back to stock. Ill try rerooting again and get this to hopefully work.
Thanks a ton

I just posted a guide on the "OneClick" method. But you were using Cory's guide correct? I still recommend his adb method over the OneClick, if you have the knowledge.

I have been using Corys guide, I need to learn at least a little abd. I finally found out what I did wrong, I missed a step completely and flashed the old software twice
