Flashing Roms, Wipe - Quick question from a brand new rooter

I just rooted my Evo and I want to flash Vaelpak. I have gone into the recovery and installed the zip, but I wanted to do a wipe as I have seen recommended. My questions are:

1. Should I wipe before I flash the new ROM or is OK to wipe after?
2. Which option under Wipe do I choose? (data, cache, etc?)

Wipe data and cache is a full wipe and will wipe everything. Cache just wipes cache and is sometimes needed to install themes or other stuff.

Wipe before flashing.

Don't forget top wipe the Delvic cache before flashing especially when changing from a since to a non sense ROM. Always wipe before flashing not after depending on how things are partitioned you can lose some stuff if you wipe after and end up with an incomplete ROM.

OK so I was on the Sprint Lover's ROM (Sense) to start. That is what I ran my nandroid backup on. I wanted to flash Vaelpak, so I did, but then I asked the question about the wiping. I did a full wipe and re-flashed Vaelpak (non Sense) and have been using it throughout the day.

Do you recommend that I go back into Recovery and re-wipe everyting again, plus the Delvic cache, and then reflash my Vaelpak rom again? Or do you think its fine considering I haven't had any issues.? What issues should I even be looking for? I spent maybe 45 minutes customizing things (uninstalling sprint apps, installing other apps, etc), so it won't kill me to have to re-do it, but I would prefer not to.

Its personal opinion really. I for one hardly ever wipe dalvik, if you have no problems don't worry about it.

If it ain't broke don't fix it

[ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - Root! The Final Frontier Edition - Upd. 12.21.10 - xda-developers

I had hboot 2.10 and couldn't get anything else to work.

I had hboot 2.10 and couldn't get anything else to work.

Back in the summer I had an evo 002 build and rooted it with simple root. I sold it and have been up to date on all things android so I would have to start from scratch.

How simple was the method you used? Thanks

Considering I have never done anything like rooting a phone before, pretty easy I guess....but I didn't have many issues. If I would have had a hiccup I would have been toast
