Flimsy/Cheap Charging Port

What a pet peeve! After a few months of normal every day use, the USB port and included cable start feeling flimsy and weak. The cable pops out way too easily, it wobbles a lot when plugged in, and the once satisfying tactile click/pop in feeling when plugging the cable in is pretty much warn out.

I know this is nitpick material, but is it too much for someone to make this better on a premium device?

Honestly I wouldn't know. I've only had mine plugged in there a few times and that is including rooting and decrypting my N6. Buy a good wireless Qi charger and you'll never know the difference.

it wobbles a lot when plugged in?
are you using it in a vehicle?
I make sure that if im charging my device im in bed and its on a flat surface not wiggling or im at work and its on my desk.

I wouldnt say its nitpick material. I would say it could be a sign that the port is going to fully wear out sooner rather than later and that would be unacceptable on a device this expensive. Your complaint is definitely warranted imo.

Get a good QI charger. Between that and your quick charger that came with the phone, you should be fine. And a good car charger.

I definitely agree with the qi wireless charger. Once you nstar charging wirelessly you will never want to go back to the usb. Still no excuse for the usb port feeling worn out after a few months though.

I haven't messed with wireless charging yet at all. Could I plug a Qi pad into moto's turbo charger? It wouldn't actually make a difference, right? I always understood that the trade off for wireless charging was slow charging.

You can use almost any charger witha qi pad. Most recomend between 1.5 and 2 amps input i think. My nexus 5 charges in an hour and a half wirelessly from almost completely dead. A little slower I guess but well worth the trade off in convienence imo.

If you get a tylt vu qi charger you will be golden. It charges faster than most other wireless chargers.

I used a wireless charger for my N5. It was pretty awesome, until my case arrived. The wireless charging quality was significantly reduced while the phone was in its case. I started taking the phone out of the case each charge, and what a hassle that became. I even purchased the Siedio case which sports its ability to be compatible with wireless charging. Oh well.

I use a ballistic tough jacket maxx case which is about as thick as you can get and it works fine with my choe wireless charger from amazon.

Try a different cable. Most of the time its the cable that gets worn out.

Yea? Is there a difference between the wireless charger you have and the one Google sells?

Apparently so as mine works perfect from over a quarter inch away! I believe it will charge perfect through any case. I can even hold the phone 1/8" or so above the charging pad and it will still charge. That's probably 3/16" of case plus the 1/8" gap when holding it up above the pad for a total of 5/16" of distance. I have always read bad things about the google charger. I would try the choe charger if i were you. I can almost promise you it will work with your case, and its only $25 or so. I have had my oldest one for a year and a half using it every day and have never had a problem or noticed diminished performance. I definitely highly recommend this charger.

You have every right to be upset. The Nexus 6 is a flagship device and should be manufactured that way. Tip: if you don't have insurance for your phone yet...GET IT. Go to SquareTrade You will have to provide a copy of your sales receipt. You can take a picture of the sales receipt and email it to them. The cost is $5 with a $75 deductible. I had Asurionn through Sprint, but dropped them and went with Squaretrade.com Squaretrade does NOT cover loss or theft.

Yea, I have used a couple different cables. They're only slightly better than the original.

I went ahead and grabbed the Choe stadium wireless charger (upgraded version, whatever that means) off Amazon, and wow how cool :-) The TYLT charger also has my eye since it supposedly charges faster, but at twice the price.

I ordered this charger after reading this post yesterday, it arrives today and will let you know how I get on, hopefully it will work fine with my Ringke Fusion case on.

I've been using the wireless charger for a couple months now, and it's great! Good thing I switched though. Now when I do need to plug in a cable, I can barely breathe on the phone without it falling out.

What a bunch of crap.

It can happen on any device. It is not a common problem with the N6. Perhaps it got stressed too much by being bent without you realizing. Anyway, don't hate on the quality of the phone, as every device has a certain % of hardware defects. The manufacturing process is not perfect no matter how much QC they do.

Go to amazon or any other major site where they have tons of reviews, and you will see that no matter what product is being sold, you will NEVER see 100% satisfaction rate. It's just life, and there's nothing you can do about it.

USB ports can be fickle to begin with, so it's important to be gentle with them and not put undue up/down or sideways pressure on them.

Wow I started this thread a year ago!

How everyone else making out with this? My USB port is pretty much completely useless at this point. Thank God for wireless charging, and hopefully I never need to plug into a computer again!
