I am shopping for a Tablet. I would like to use Google Maps and Latitude while on the road. To update my location while driving, I would assume that I need Mobile Data. This means I need a 3/4G connection (besides WiFi) for Google Maps (the Server) to pinpoint my current location. Is this correct? I need a Carrier Data Plan (like Amazons new 8.4" Kindle Fire HD 4G LTE has with AT&T) which is fairly inexpensive (Introductory Offer 250MB $49/Year - Paid in advance). I would like to be able to switch this 4/G connection off most of the time while on the road and just update my location periodically. I am fairly new to some of this and would appreciate any helpful comments.

Welcome to AC!!

If you want to use Google Maps, you will most likely need some data plan. But, depending on what you need it for, there are WiFi only tablets out there that have GPS. Not sure how the map functionality of that works, but, it's something to look into. My Prime has GPS and I don't have a data plan on it. Can I open up Google Maps and just browse around, I don't think so. I have only used my Prime as a GPS device once, but, it worked well enough. It got me through an hour long trip with several recalculations needed.
