So I do a lot of food photography since I’m a pro team member for a grill company and I’m not super thrilled with my iPhone as I can’t get shots with the main sensor very close without major out of focus issues. The telephoto lacks detail and often are disappointing so I’m looking elsewhere. I had the note 20 ultra and sold it when the iPhone came out and haven’t really replaced it yet. I see it doesn’t do macro but can it focus within 2-3” of a plate of food?

Phones, up close photography, and keeping everything in focus generally don't go together. If you are wanting everything in focus, you'll need to back up and then crop the photo after the fact. Since you are doing this for a company, they should be providing you with a purpose use camera setup. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, either. A simple DSLR or bridge camera with variable aperture (you'll need a small aperture to increase the focus area), tripod, and decent lightning would work well.

Yeah, my previous phones did this much better than my 12 Pro Max does. I have a full frame Canon, several lights with various mounting options, remote trigger and multiple tripods of my own but I seldom use it for posting as it’s one more step to transfers photos to my phone, tablet or iMac. I’m curious about the ability to focus closer on the Pixel. Thanks for the reply though.

The Pixel 5 takes great food photos - for me, anyway. I'm enjoying using it in Portrait Mode to take those kinds of photos, too. But, since I don't primarily take shots of food, I may not be the best person to judge.

I'll try and find a sample for you. Sorry for the sideways upload.
