Fold 7 vs Tri-Fold...

I have been seeing a lot about this Tri-Fold phone from Sammy and, I'll be honest... The gadget geek in me is drooling hard over this thing, but in reality.... I REALLY don't see the point.

I have had previous folds and, in all honesty, the thickness is about the only thing that turned me off of them, so that is one of the driving reasons I went back to a normal phone. In comes the Fold 7 which is barely thicker than a normal phone when closed, better screen sizes and BAM, I am back.

Now, with the Tri-Fold, I can see the appeal with the larger inner screen, but is that enough to get people to switch?

It's different for those without a fold, so not really talking about those folks, but more to the point of folks with the Fold 7 wanting to swap to this thing?

I love the thinness and the feel of my Fold 7 especially when folded but if I had a choice of using while open the 10 inch screen with the extra functionality then I would not mind the extra bulk while closed. I know it's early on but from the Hands-On videos that I've seen it really goes into tablet mode. I would not jump on this first version though and also nothing has been decided yet about Samsung Care Plus

I'm sticking with the fold series. The fold series is the best for me when it comes to portable tablet and phone. I want portability and the 8 inch screen is plenty big for portable use. Honestly I don't know how Samsung is going to improve the fold 7. The trifold would be a good fold ultra model. You have the flip, fold, and tri mold. This addresses every size like the S series does with 3 styles. Obviously there's a demand for all 3 sizes in the folding market.

It's just a COOL FACTOR, that's about it. I think ZF7 is more than effective for daily use and mobility.

Well, that stinks. I didn't have much interest in the tri-fold but that picture piques my curiosity!

I actually got a chance to get hands-on with one (someone I know managed to get one, one of those "more money than brains" type). He was all excited about the hype.

I have to say a few things:

1. When folded, it looks chunkier than it really feels. Yeah, thicker, but not as bad as one would think once you have it in hand.
2. When unfolded, it is a bit unwieldy. The fold 7 I can still use one handed when opened (I am 6'5" and have large hands) and it feels okay, but manageable. The Tri-Fold, no way.
3. When holding it opened, it's not as sturdy as a tablet, you notice the hinges and hold it differently because it may fold in on itself. Even though the hinges are stiff and you won't without trying, you notice it and hold it differently.
4. When you do the first opening, it's not bad, but I can just see someone with fingernails just a bit too long dent/damage the inner screen when reaching for the final section to unfold.

I'll see if I can get some more hands-on time and some pics, but all in all, I think I will definitely be sticking with my F7 and not really go for this thing.

I'm definitely going to sit on the sidelines, I'm totally okay with the smaller open screen of my current foldable. I do see myself eventually going down the path where I can use the phone folded most of the day and then just open for tablet mode.

I'm in the same boat. I LOVE having the ability to open it when needed, but I find that I hardly use it in "tablet mode" enough to justify the need for a bigger one. I just like having it for the times I do need to use it.
