Folders disappeared from Gallery

I just noticed yesterday a couple folders have disappeared from my gallery. Ones I know are missing are Downloads, Skitch and Messenger. I HAVE checked the "show hide albums" area and the folders do not appear there anymore either. . . So when I save photos from Messenger or Skitch they are not available in the Gallery. What has happened/how do I fix it?

The exact same thing happened to me last week. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the folders back. My ringtones and songs I had downloaded also disappeared. I'm missing the downloads folder, random snaps, and camera shots. If I take pictures they save to the gallery but not downloaded pictures or memes like they had before. When I plugged my phone into my laptop I was able to open up the DCIM folder and get all of my pictures copied to my computer so thankfully I didn't lose them but I still can't figure out how to make them reappear on my phone. I read something about renaming a folder as .nomedia makes it disappear but I can't find anything on how to get them back. I am calling tech support now to see if they know what's up with this.

So, I was able to find this info:

Friends.. All those who are facing the problem with pics disappearing in gallery , please note that the problem is with HTC modification in Android+HTC Sense combo. The same problem is found in HTC One V, X, S, Explorer, desire etc.
Whenever this happens, note that the pics in gallery have disappered showing "No photos or videos found" msg; check Music app also-You will NOT find the music files also. Although all the data is still on the SD card/phone memory it is not visible in Gallery/Music app.

The main problem is with "Search Index" of the phone. Whenever, you access your files using a third party file explorer & delete some data OR add some data by connecting usb to PC, the cache created by "search index" of HTC phones gets corrupted.

The only solution I could find is Go to>>Settings>>Apps>>All apps>>Gallery/Music>>clear cache & clear data. Then disable the app. Restart phone. Then again enable the app. Now when you check your gallery; all the files appear.

This bug can be solved by HTC technical team. For that we all need to contact them by sending Email/making calls.
