folks not overwhelmed by the camera

When you zoom in, the pics are grainy. I'm thinking of getting the S7 now...ugh

Zooming in with a camera with no optical zoom is bogus anyway. All digital zoom is doing is cropping an image and will get grainy since zooming in on the same image.

Optical zoom is the only real zoom.

But iPhone doesn't get grainy
IPhones do, they just have higher contrast in the image to block a lot of the noise. The new iPhone has a macro lens, the opposite of the v20 with the wide lens.. The new iPhone will take better quality zoomed pics than the v20 based on their idea in their dual camera.

Most reviewers say the iPhone 7 and galaxy s7 have better cameras. There have been some good tips like changing hdr from auto to on and learning how to use manual modes. I have seen some great pics taken in manual mode. The v20 has so many options that it may take more work to get the results you want.

When I zoom in the actual image that I am looking at is grainy, but the pic comes out smooth and clean. I'm not sure what is going on there....lol.

If there's one complaint I have about the camera in auto mode, it's that it really loves to crank up the ISO in low light, which will introduce noise into the images. This happens with all digital cameras, and the V20's jpeg processing does do an ok job reducing the noise. I'd personally prefer a lower ISO and use a longer shutter time, which is part of why I like shooting in manual mode unless I need HDR.

With a low ISO and long exposures, noise is almost non-existent on the V20. These were shot in manual mode. The coals were shot handheld, ISO 100 and 1" shutter. The orb was with a tripod, ISO 50 and 30" shutter.

Granted these examples wouldn't be ideal for a quick snap, but are meant to show that it can create images with little to no noise. Even if you're not into full on manual alp the time, I'd still suggest you play around with the controls to get a feel for what works. If you're willing to learn the controls, it becomes a fantastic camera.

Ya, auto mode on the V20 isn't the best out there but is still plenty solid for me at least. But again, lg is known for allowing top notch manual control capability. Honestly, when I compared the zoom clarity from auto mode between the V20, Pixel, iPhone 7, and S7, there wasn't enough difference in any of them to justify completely writing off the V20, based on its auto mode capability.

Also, just curious, were you using wide angle or regular? There's a big difference and by default it is set to wide angle.

How about using a third party app. like 'A better camera' to tweak the settings in auto mode? You can do EV compensation (I believe the V20 tend to over expose a bit) or determine the ISO or image size.

I mostly shoot manual mode, so I don't really have any need or experience with third party apps. The V20 suits my needs almost perfectly.

Yeah, learning even Manual Control basics can make your picture taking experience a LOT better.

You need very steady hands to do that. I don't carry a tripod around

But people usually get phones to capture pictures while the moment is happening. No time to tweak manual settings. I think the v20 is far less superior is that regard.

To be honest....pics don't pop like the v10 was able to do. The clarity isn't there.

3rd party apps are not compatible with the twin camera from what I have seen

The v20 is made for those who like to tweak photos.. Also, it snaps pretty good pics when HDR is on. I wonder if they'll release a patch for the camera to lower the ISO.

The note 7 and other Samsung's have pro mode with lots of tweaking... But the auto mode was also very good relative to other phones.
