When you zoom in, the pics are grainy. I'm thinking of getting the S7 now...ugh
Zooming in with a camera with no optical zoom is bogus anyway. All digital zoom is doing is cropping an image and will get grainy since zooming in on the same image.
Optical zoom is the only real zoom.
IPhones do, they just have higher contrast in the image to block a lot of the noise. The new iPhone has a macro lens, the opposite of the v20 with the wide lens.. The new iPhone will take better quality zoomed pics than the v20 based on their idea in their dual camera. But iPhone doesn't get grainy
If there's one complaint I have about the camera in auto mode, it's that it really loves to crank up the ISO in low light, which will introduce noise into the images.
I mostly shoot manual mode, so I don't really have any need or experience with third party apps. The V20 suits my needs almost perfectly. How about using a third party app. like 'A better camera' to tweak the settings in auto mode? You can do EV compensation (I believe the V20 tend to over expose a bit) or determine the ISO or image size.

You need very steady hands to do that. I don't carry a tripod aroundIf there's one complaint I have about the camera in auto mode, it's that it really loves to crank up the ISO in low light, which will introduce noise into the images. This happens with all digital cameras, and the V20's jpeg processing does do an ok job reducing the noise. I'd personally prefer a lower ISO and use a longer shutter time, which is part of why I like shooting in manual mode unless I need HDR.
With a low ISO and long exposures, noise is almost non-existent on the V20. These were shot in manual mode. The coals were shot handheld, ISO 100 and 1" shutter. The orb was with a tripod, ISO 50 and 30" shutter.

Granted these examples wouldn't be ideal for a quick snap, but are meant to show that it can create images with little to no noise. Even if you're not into full on manual alp the time, I'd still suggest you play around with the controls to get a feel for what works. If you're willing to learn the controls, it becomes a fantastic camera.
Most reviewers say the iPhone 7 and galaxy s7 have better cameras. There have been some good tips like changing hdr from auto to on and learning how to use manual modes. I have seen some great pics taken in manual mode. The v20 has so many options that it may take more work to get the results you want.
But people usually get phones to capture pictures while the moment is happening. No time to tweak manual settings. I think the v20 is far less superior is that regard.
