With the new HTC Evo coming out on the 4th, I was wondering as to how it would work with upgrading. I am a sprint PREIMERE customer so i am able to upgrade yearly. I checked my upgrade status and it said i was able to upgrade on/after june1st. Correct? Will the Evo still cost 200? or...? Thank you

Let me get this straight BEST BUY will give 1 year premiere members with the $75 off discount the full 150 and instant rebate as long as you sign a 2 year agreement? Am I misunderstanding you?

Alright... So back in june i opened up a sprint account for the palm pre. In march(2010) my mom was called by sprint and they said if we added a line to my contract they would only charge us 58$/month per phone. So we obviously took that deal. I went onto sprint chat today to find out how upgrading would work on the evo. The first lady said that the palm pre line wasn't the main line so i wouldn't be able to upgrade. till next year. So she suggested that i could make the palm pre the main line. I said sure. She then randomly disconnects without saying anything and i get connected to another chat rep. this rep said that the palm pre line was not able to upgrade until a full billing cycle because it had switched as to the main line. The other rep never told me this would happen. So i was arguing with him as to why this would have happened because the palm pre line should have been the main line all along. but when the person who sold my mom the phone activated her phone she made it the primary line rather than the pre. So that rep told me to call sprint and resolve it there.
I called sprint.. and the first lady said that she couldn't do anything and she passed my phone call onto another higher ranked rep. When i finally got done talking to her she told me that i would be able to upgrade to the evo at the end of my billing cycle(Which happens to be 6/07/10 3 days after the evo comes out.) She told me that for my trouble instead of getting just 75$ off the non-subsidized price i would be getting the full 150$ rebate making the phone come out to 200$. But... I'm a sprint premiere customer... shouldn't i already get that?

any ideas? am i getting ripped? should i call back and complain and say i want more off?

thanks

That's much better than the three months they said it could take for the change to go through to get my main line corrected.

Same thing happened to me, but at least they straightened your problem out. They made my wife's line the main line and switched mine to the secondary, even though mine has been the main line for 12 years. They couldn't switch it back because I would lose all those discounts I have had for the last 12 years, which is a lot. So to remedy the situation, which we will see if it works soon, they wrote a big note in my account from way up in the chain, to let them know that my number would be the eligible line to get upgrades each year, and to allow the discount off the phone. I will soon see if they keep true to there word. I have checked each month to make sure the note is still there, and it is. Account Services say that I shouldn't have any problems.

After getting my Pre at a Sprint store I WILL NOT get the evo at one and deal with the MIR. It was a battle. I followed the instructions to the T and was denied. It took several weeks of battling back and forth before the ok'd it. Radio Shack here I come!

Let me add my experience to the conversation. I bought my Palm Pre on day one, and I have two other lines on my account. One, my question is which line is considered my "primary line". The other question is about the upgrade. So I'm a Premier Customer. I emailed Sprint asking them the same question and got this:

" ... The term "primary line" only refers to phone lines on a shared (or
family) plan. All three of your lines are on individual plans. However,
regardless of the plans on your account, phone line XXXXXXXXXX remains
eligible for the full $150.00 instant rebate on upgrading the phone on
that account on June 1, 2010 ..."

I may go the Best Buy route or use telesales or go to the Sprint store and pick it up. We have a pretty big one in downtown Chicago. I haven't had a rebate issue that Sprint hasn't resolved quickly, but I do have a Best Buy very close to my job. I'll go by and see if their taking reservations. The REAL question is will this guarantee me a phone? If they have 30 reservations and the store only gets 10 phones, then what? They probably don't know how many phones they'll have on 6/4.

soo... really... she lied when she said that i would be getting something "special" for my troubles...
right?

I think what i'm going to do is... go to a sprint store.. say "Hypothetically.. let's say i got a pre when they first came out last june. I'm a premiere customer. How much will it cost to upgrade my pre when the evo comes out(According to everything i have read it should be 200)."

I'll see what they say and tell them i my story(the quoted thing) and i'll print out my chat transcription.
Sound good?

Similar situation myself, but I started straightening it out around January since I knew the (Supersonic) Evo 4G was en route.

It's all cleared up now, which is great, but it was a nightmare / headache. Sprint should NOT be changing around primary lines (especially when they are primary for almost a decade).

Good luck to anyone who might be in this boat. It takes patience and calmness, and eventually you get a few perks out of it if you play the role of civilized customer.

I wouldn't say she lied - it's possible that she thought she was giving you something extra, who knows.

Bottom Line: You should be paying $300 up front and getting the $100 mail in rebate come June if you buy it from Sprint.

I had no problems with the mail in rebate for the Pre last year.

Option?

I have added a few lines to my account just to get new phones. I will have the store activate them to the new line and then just swap ESN's with a Sprint chat rep when I get home. I imagine you could do the same thing so you wouldn't have to switch around the primary/non primary numbers. Just a thought.

Just a new thought for everyone out there. Best Buy has a trade in program through dealtree.com. You can check it out (just google Best Buy Trade In). Those of us with a Palm Pre must look under Palmone (which I did not realize) to find the Pre. As I posted in one of the other threads, we get $113 BB giftcard for sending in a Pre as long as it is not in bad shape, missing cords, etc.

Now here's where it gets really sweet: The terms say if you purchased your device at BB originally, they will allow an in-store review and payment, which means - you guessed it - a new HTC EVO for the rediculously low price of $87 out of pocket! I will make sure to contact BB to verify how the in-store review/payment works, but I believe the idea is for exactly this reason, to use it as a pure trade in!

Also to confirm for all the folks questioning how the Best Buy deals work....I had the exact same nervousness last year when I purchased my Pre.

Sprint tells you you will get $150 off, but they don't want to tell you you will get the new customer price. After some leg work I was able to get my Pre at the new customer price from Best Buy without sending in the stupid mail in rebate.

So really you should NEVER shop for anything at the retail carrier stores (sorry Sprint sales reps, but your accessory prices are rediculous too). Just go to BB or the Shack and get your new device at the price all the new customers get!

Yes. But why mess with the rebate when you can get it at Best Buy or Radio Shack for $199 without the rebate?

Hey ima newbie so bear with me

Are you 100% sure about that? If so great!! But I was told, that i could get the upgrade (right now it says im avail or $75 upgrade, bout pre in june 09,but i can still get the phone for $199? i thought it was $299 and get the mail in $100)

But you're sayin best buy skips the mail in rebate thing, and just give it to you instantly? So bottom line it'll just pay the $199 ? Thats terrific if true!
