For some reason, not super excited on the new Nexus 4

Anyone look at the new LG Optimus G performance review on AC? The performance is staggeringly better. Should make the new Nexus more compelling.

I feel like the OP a little. I'm a phone junkie and know I may get it but, how soon I get it will depend on how close it is to these rumors. If it's the same phone rumored I may wait to see if any other nexus devices come out. I have the Gnex now and have had it off & on for almost a year. The design of the rumored phone does remind me of when the Iphone 4s came out (with it not looking that much different design wise). It's one of the reasons I waited for the Gnex.

Who I'm I kidding, I will probably still get this phone, especailly if it's at least 16GB and has that cool Nexus logo on the back that has been rumored. I can't help myself, I'm a Nexus fanboy but, not a snobby or rude one. I can totally understand why someone wouldn't want to get this rumored device.

I almost feel sorry for the this new generation... just 6 years ago we didnt even have smart phones... we all had flip phones happy that it even had a camera... now we all argue about what OEM makes it. and how much storage it has or whether it has LTE or not. dont get me wrong... technology will always advance... but we can still be happy with what we have. We just need to open our eyes. These companies have been moving very fast always making the greedy consumers happy (including me). So I just want to say... Thank you google, I support your decision and will be buying this phone... regardless of price.

Im not excited for it simply because of LG making it and the looks of it.. Also im tired of having cameras that aren't great.

Not sure a nexus will ever have a world beating camera. It's always going to be limited by the software.

So any more rumors as to other Nexus phones coming this Fall ? Or is it 99% just this LG Nexus 4 ? I will remain open minded to it, the better screen, and improved battery life will be a huge upgrade over my Verizon Galaxy Nexus, as well as the hardware being almost twice as good. Maybe this LG Nexus won't be so bad after all.

Not really gonna be excited until it's officially announced.

If Apple can write good software for the iPhone why can't Google write good software for the Nexus? I'm not sure how this all works so forgive me if it's an obvious answer. Don't most of the phones use Sony camera's? Samsung and HTC have figured out how to provide good software, why can't Google? Don't they optimize whatever version OS for the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S accordingly?

My question is, with Cyanogen Mod and CM10 being so great, and released for all top end new phones, do we really need a "Nexus" phone ? If you want pure stock Android, but also want the top of the line phone, you should get the Galaxy S3 and install CM10. The Galaxy S3 as of right now, is the top Android hardware phone, and CM10 is pure stock Android.

I think a Galaxy S3 with CM10, is faster, better battery life, better screen, than a stock Galaxy Nexus.

Same with the upcoming LG Nexus 4, yes it hardware wise and screen tech will make it the top dog phone for now, but then come early next year with the Galaxy S4, and HTC 5", those will have better hardware and better screens, and install CM11 on them, and will be a much better phone than the stock LG Nexus 4.

Now if there was no Cyanogen Mod whatsoever, then of course the Nexus phone is the best and only option.

Personally, i prefer Google's coding abilities over the CM team's. I'm not knocking the CM team but i just like what Google does. Also, the latest version of android that is stable will always land on the Nexus devices first. I like having the latest stable version of android as soon as it's available.

I had the same mindset as you. Thought I was never buy anything that isn't a Nexus again. The problem for me now is how ugly the LG Nexus is compared to many top of the line phones like the One X and the Sony T also did you see that beautiful Butterfly J? Google needs to step up there game in the looks of the Nexus phones. So I am to considering on moving to the One X+ with CM10 and keep my GNEX so I still have the latest stock Android to try out.

I have both the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, running JellyBro CM10 kang ROM, and also the HTC "international" One X, running CM10 Nightly. The One X running CM10 is way smoother, faster, and massive better battery life than my Nexus. And the screen on the One X is much nicer.

Be curious if the One X gets CM11 based off Android 4.2 next month ?

But based on new reviews of the LG Optimus G, makes it sound like the top dog Android phone today, best screen, best hardware, great battery. So the Nexus 4 based off that phone, will make it the best Android of 2012 so far, plus of course having the newest stock Android OS.

I should point out, we don't even know what the final design of the new Nexus (if it is a new Nexus) is yet. So far all we've seen are test units.

If the LG Nexus will be the top phone based off of specs this year, why not buy and throw CM on there?

I was thinking about the One X+ too. But I hate sense. I have heard the CM Roms habent been that great on the One series. Not like they are on the Galaxy series.

I am wondering how long it would take to get a stable CM10 Rom and if I could hold out that long. I want the stock experience.

What other benefits do you see in getting the One X+ over the Nexus? Price, screen (really close to the LG) and insurance is what I can think of.

How can you not consider the Nexus 4 as an upgrade?
The LG Nexus 4 has:
1) A 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU
2) 2 GB RAM
3) A 2100 mAh battery! (Don't tell me this is not worth it, I seriously crave for better battery life)
4) An 8 MP camera (You've seen the leaked sample pics and you gotta admit it's significantly better than the GNex's camera)
5) 1280x768 True-HD IPS screen (supposedly better than the pentile screen that the GNex has)
6) A better GPU
How many smartphones out there have such a package?!

Apart from this it has all those things which the GNex got right.
Also considering that it's from a different OEM, I'm sure it will not have that abysmally low speaker volume and low vibration intensity that the GNex and the Nexus S have.
Looks like your main complaint is about the screen being the same. I guess you were expecting a 1080p screen but that's overkill! A better screen over better battery life is just not wise. Also anything more than a 4.8" screen for a phone (like the Note) is crazy.
And why do you want a different design? The design of the GNex is perfect, one of the best looking phones out there.
And I reckon that the next version of Android might have the new linux kernel with power management features, so you will get more considerably more battery backup from that 2100 mAh battery.

If all this still doesn't excite you then I don't know what can. Maybe you are not a gamer at all and so the under-the hood specs don't matter to you, but think about it, what different could LG have done? You are probably expecting too much from a phone. The Nexus doesn't have to be the best in terms of hardware out there. The fact that it's a nexus put's it in a league of its own.

My biggest thing about the One X+ is the looks, prettiest phone. Also the 64GB is great.

Yeah, I've never seen a better looking screen than the One serious. But they say the LG is a very close second. And with stock Android and no contract it is looking like a winner for me. I can get a new one each year without a contract!

Well, LG invented IPS. No reason the screen can't look amazing.

I'm comparing more the actual phone than screen though. The LG just plain looks like crap to me. Besides I have a white unlocked gnex that is going to get the latest updates first for at least another year. By that time hopefully HTC is making a Nexus.
