Forever loading or locking up when trying to view texts.

This is my very first smartphone and was bought for me by my gf, so bear with me as I try to explain this problem.

This actually started last night when having a texting convo with someone. I suddenly didn't get their message (But it appeared in the tiny text crawl at the top of the screen) and went back "home" and tried to go back into "messages" and click on the person's profile to see what they sent but I was hit with an infinite loading screen. I know it was infinite because I even left it on all night last night trying to load and it wouldn't.

Now the only way I can view texts sent to me by someone is to go into the "people" app and look up their profile I created for them there and click the message icon on the bottom part of the screen. I can view any old and new texts they send THERE, but not the usual way by merely clicking the "message" icon.

It gets more weird....because if I click the "tap to reply" thing at the bottom the phone stops receiving any user input and the only thing I can do is hit the home button to go back.

The only way to actually SEND texts is to compose a new one via the "pencil" icon on the message screen, where I have to manually select the person(s) I want to send the text to and then go to the "people" menu to read it....then going back to messages again and using the pencil icon to reply...ad nauseum.

It's still doing it this morning too, which annoys me, since this will prevent me from quickly reading and replying to texts. I have to navigate through so many new menus now to avoid my phone locking up/infinitely loading that it feels like I'm still on my old Verizon flip phone (I'm using her provider now, AT&T) texting by hitting the numberpad 50 times.

Can anyone help?

EDIT: I also now notice it takes an EXTREMELY long time for my texts to actually *send*. Like a minute for one text to go out. Even though I have 3/4 bars.

I kind of "fixed it" by just downloading a free SMS/MMS replacement app from the android Marketplace and I'm using that.

The default one has stopped working on my vivid, so there you go.

Great phones.

do a factory reset of the phone, also the more texts you have the longer itll take to open the app, this has always been a complaint/issue with htc messaging app....as far as sending time, thats something else....
