On Gboard I had the word bubbles turned off then did an FDR and they are back and I can't for the life of me recall how I did it. I'm typing along and a dang bubble suddenly encapsulates a word. Really don't like this feature.

Did you ever figure it out? I haven't seen bubbles around words but I did accidently enable some kind of Facebook keyboard that I absolutely hated without even realizing it.

No, pretty much gave up. Such an annoying feature and I'm wondering if the latest update removed any option to change it.
You should be able to delete that FB kb under keyboard options or at least change it. And dumping Facebook was the best move I ever made a year ago. I'm in the minority when I say "what a load of garbage". Good to be free again

Ah, FacePalm, figured it out. It's a texting thing in Verizon's message plus. Any word that can be swapped for an emoji is encapsulated in a bubble. Touch the bubble and the emoji options pop up. I knew the purpose as it was obvious, I just wanted it to stop with the bubbles all over the message.
Was using the OEM texting app then decided to try Textra and then ended up needing an FDR and when I was putting things back together I decided to use Message + for awhile. Totally forgot about the bubbles and when they started popping up I totally forgot it was a message plus thing since it had been awhile since I had used it.
Anyhow, problem solved, May go back to textra.

Problem solved? May go back to Textra? That doesn't sound like a solution. Same problem. Still working on it but I just hope the path to "help" isn't big time waster. I have Verizon, Note 8. Darn bubbles started recently. Hate them
Just starting this forum and I see too many old messages, as 2014 back, where they are obsolete.
Anyway solution is in Messaging menu or in Device settings or Verizon or messaging app is wrong?
Facebook suspect too.

In the Verizon message plus app select the menu button in the top left, then scroll down to settings, then select conversations and toggle off "Enable Smart Emojis".

Thank you for the instructions on turning off the Emoji bubbles ... they are now hopefully dead!! (wish the Emojis were, as well!)

Just started doing the Emojis Bubble over the Words thingy again... and I checked in my settings and the "Enable Smart Emojis" was turned off already...

I went ahead and turned it on... tested it... and then turned it back off, and tested it and FIXED. This is your REAL solution if you have already turned it off and it starts up again on it's own.
