I will come out and say it, IM A NOOB. I have had success rooting my phone, and numerous other in depth things. But I really messed up today. I wanted to start using custom ROMs, so I downloaded ROM Manager, and went through the motions. I ran into an issue of not being able to get the update on the sd to install. At this point is when I should have asked for help, but thinking I was fairly computer savvy I thought I would try to figure it out on my own. After a lot of trial and error, I thought I had bricked my phone, untill I learned about Odin, and found that I could flash with DL09.tar.md5. This got me back to square one, and to the point where a sain person might ask for help. NOPE! Not stupid me, I continued experimenting and read somewhere that if I flashed my Kernel with speedmod, it would let me enter recovery e2 instead of the new e3. This is where my problem officially starts. I used Odin to flash speedmod, and when the phone rebboted, I get the samsung screen, then:

formatting FOTA
FOTA wipe failed (in red)
Formatting data
formatting cache
formatting DBDATA
wipe_data failed

then it cycles over and over.
I really hope there is an answer to this problem, because everything I have tried is outdated or has broken links. Thanks in advance, I hope its a fairly simple issue to resolve.

OK, first and foremost what you should have done before doing anything was read as much information as you could from the stickies at the top of the Rooting, ROMs, and Hacks section. Second, rom manager does not work with the Fascinate so forget it even exists. Where did you find this speedmod? I have never heard of it. Can you tell me where you got it so I can do some research on it to better understand what happened? We're going to have to get you back to a stock condition so you are going to have to flash the DL09 file in ODIN again. I'm not sure what kind of damage may have been done, so this time you are also going to have to flash the PIT file at the same time as the DL09 file. Download this file to your computer:

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

When you open ODIN and connect your phone to the computer, click the PDA button and but the DL09 file in there, click the PIT button and put the atlas PIT file in there. Look to the left of the start button and you will see three check boxes. Make sure you put a check in re-partition. Then hit the start button and let it do its thing. After you have done that and the phone successfully boots into the stock ROM we can talk about loading a custom ROM on your phone.

Well, that got me past the FOTA, now it just sends me to the system recovery, and when I select reboot it just shows the samsung screen and goes back to recovery. Thank you for your quick response and getting me this far. At least now I know there is hope:)

Where did you get the DL09 file? That may be the problem there also.

Here is the official verizon one:

EDIT - Sorry if this leaves you hanging, but I have to get to bed. If you are still booting back into the stock recovery instead of the ROM, flash the DL09 file by itself in the PDA section of ODIN, don't include the pit file, and uncheck re-partition. Make sure the battery is out the whole time when you flash in ODIN. See if that gets you back to the stock ROM.

Awesome! Back to square one! It sucks that I'm at the beginning again, but at least its not dead. I thank you so much for getting me out of that, was starting to panic. So I was doing the assigned homework, and I think I have a better understanding of whats going on. I will keep researching, then take another stab at it in the morning. Thanks again!

You're welcome. Glad you're back up and running. And especially glad you have a better understanding. People shouldn't be flashing and modding their phones if they don't have an understanding of what they are doing. The more you understand, the more enjoyable this will be. Don't be shy about asking questions around here to expand your understanding. There are a ton of helpful people around here.
