FoxFi/Free Wifi on the Verizon Note 3

Has a workaround been found yet for the latest update of the Verizon Note 3 to be able to get free wifi or use apps like Foxfi? The home button trick has been patched in the December update. I don't feel like paying for free wifi. I am considering rooting but first I want to find out if any way has been found without rooting.

Foxfi works without root. Just cancel if Verizon warning comes up then turn uncheck Foxfi and try again. Works great for me.

FoxFi works fine after the Dec update.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what does FoxFi do that VZW's built-in Mobile Hotspot app? Don't you pay for data either way?

I understand on Sprint with unlimited mobile data that does NOT including tethering there is an advantage to FoxFi or similar apps (i.e. unlimited tethering data at no extra charge), but on VZW you pay for data whether it's destination is the phone itself or passed-through to another device.

The point is that some legacy data plans do not include tethering. You have to pay for it at an additional charge

FoxFi working for me as well on Verizon. As someone else said, you just have to back out of the subscription screen.

The big question is now will they be able to re-engineer after Kit Kat. They've always been able to do it in past updates. Sometimes it takes a month for specific models and carriers. But this is the first time that I've seen them throw up a warning screen about the possibility that it won't work worth a specific upgrade, i.e. Kit Kat. I wonder if they know something that we don't.

Good to know that Verizon seems to always be last on updates, hopefully Foxfi figures out a fix!

@theCyberGuy: By "try 3 times", do you mean check the "Activate Hotspot" checkbox 3 times?

Because no matter how many times I try to check that box in FoxFI on my Motorola Droid RAZR M, each time it pops up a dialog with the message, "Your carrier has blocked WiFi mode in latest phone update. Please use USB mode or Bluetooth mode instead." and only an OK button to dismiss it with.

This is unfortunate since in almost every other way, KitKat (4.4.2) is superior to Jelly Bean (4.1.2) from which it was updated: faster and more responsive, lower battery usage, lower memory usage, and so far I haven't found one incompatibility (aside from this).

foxfi website says that the note 3 on 4.4 is now supported....i'm in the middle of the download and it will be the first thing i test out. i use foxfi all the time.

so foxfi now has me manually go to settings and turn on the mobile hotspot feature and then connects. it was a little disconcerting as i expected and verizon popup telling me to subscribe, but nothing popped up. mobile hotspot turned on and says im connected through the foxfi network name.

Does anyone else keep getting a triangle in the notification bar after kitkat, has to do with credentials I think. I'm getting it about every 10 min.

Might be Picasa wanting your credentials when you go into your gallery. There are a few threads that show you how to get rid of it.

the triangle comes up whenever i started up foxfi to warn of their credentials...once i dismissed it it didn't come back....
