Has anyone tried WiFi tethering with foxfi on this yet? Curious if it works since I've been out of luck with the droid line for a few years

I initially posted that I assumed it wasn't going to work, as it hadn't been for a few generations now, but actualllllllyyyyy it's working for me. I just tested it with FoxFi/PDANet+ with key (so full version unlocked), and I'm on Verizon with a legacy unlimited data plan.

Everything seems to be a go. I'm shocked.

I'm kinda worried though, as I'm not sure if Verizon is somehow monitoring the data and knows that I'm using a wifi hotspot without having one set up in my plan.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I'm still on unlimited too. I never had an issue with them before with data, but I'm not in the ridiculous bracket. I've still been using the USB tether while in work and it has always been fine and never heard from them

Yes, I used USB tether too, mainly when traveling. This will definitely be interesting to try out more.

For what it's worth, I have a custom OS on my HTC M8 on VZW. The OS lets me use the Hotspot feature, but I don't pay for it.

Might be a grey area with Verizon, but personally I've never had issues.

with my nexus 6P on Verizon unlimited plan the hotspot worked out of the box no foxfi, or other workaround just turned it on and it connected didn't search for subscription or anything.

I don't understand. Why don't you just turn on the Hotspot. It doesn't make any difference what carrier you have.

If you're on VZW UDP you're supposed to pay for the tethering option. My 5X does a subscription check when I try to enable the hotspot.

For those of you that are not on the unlimited data plan, you can turn away now. Hotspot is free if you're on a tiered plan. It's $30 per month if you still have unlimited data.

I'll make my obligatory statement: If you're using the hotspot a lot on the Verizon Unlimited Data Plan, and using a lot of data each month, I'd highly recommend ponying up the extra $30 per month. While you might not have been caught up to this point, there's a chance that they could catch you and take away your unlimited. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that's how they counter those who use the UDP with FoxFi.

Just a word of caution from someone who is paying an extra $60 per month for two UDP phones with Hotspots attached. So, yes, my two phones will cost me $160 per month in data and hotspot charges beginning next month, and I'm gladly paying it. I used 160GB last month on both phones and it was a down month for me. I don't know what we'll do for Internet out here in the country if VZW ever takes away my UDP.

Good to know. I never got any sort of subscription check for having the hot spot. However I probably won't use the wifi hot spot option anyway because I don't want to lose unlimited by chance. I don't need it often and USB tether with my laptop is usually good enough.

I tether all the time. You won't lose unlimited.

Dx, thunderbolt, bionic, droid maxx. All of them.

Interesting. I did it with the Droid X and the Galaxy Nexus, up until Jelly Bean changed it (I think that was the version). Then went to Moto X which couldn't do it.

Did you root them? All of mine were. And I did the Chinese bootloader unlock on my maxx.
