FPS- absolute garbage

I have to say coming from my Note 9 that the FPS is rubbish. The majority of times it doesn't recognise multiple fingers. I have deleted previous fingerprint recognitions but to no avail.

When I eventually upgrade this phone I won't buy again if it's the same FPS with no significant improvement. The older capacitive FPS on the back of my Note 9 was near perfect. I know it's more secure as it's a 3D sensor vs a 2D sensor but at the expense of frustrating operation. It kind of reminds me of the exceptionally secure but very frustrating iris sensor my Note 9 had.

I'm grateful for smartlock where I don't have to use the FPS at home.

You maybe have a defective device because I'm usually super critical of Finger Print Sensors but the 22 Ultra is pretty flawless and always fast. My main finger that I use most often I scan twice as 2 seperate fingerprints just to make sure it's more reliable too. Are you using a screen protector?

I also suspect that your device is defective. I have almost no problems with the FPS on my S22 Ultra. The FPS on my previous S10+ was far less reliable for me.

Thanks for replying. No screen protector, and I deleted my previous FPS registrations and started again. Always the same thing, you delete and start again and it works good for for a little while and before you know it, it's back to working lousy again.

No issues with mine and with White stone screen protector. Do you have a screen protector? Maybe try safe mode see if it's the same ? You can also use face unlock

Seeing as you've tried to delete and re-register your fingerprint, then it's got to be defective unit.

The ultrasonic sensor on the Galaxy S21/22 is hands down the best fingerprint sensor on a phone. Much better than the one on the S9. So if it continually screws up, go to your carrier or get hold of Samsung and get a replacement.

After using a pixel 6 Pro, my S22U is like living in the future, fps is instant.

Exynos with screen protector.

may or may not apply to you, but i have noticed that the fps doesn't work so well if your hand is dry or after washing your hand because the prints don't have oil/moisture that is often needed to recognize the pattern. in some cases scratches can hinder the reading performance too. Again, may or may not apply to you.
I personally have to keep swiping my thumb to my face to get some oil/moisture on the print and read properly after washing my hand... kind of frustrating and kicks my germaphobia to the max XD

also, feel free to have the sensor checked at an authorized repair center

I find the opposite. If I have any oil like substance or if my finger is even damp, FPS does not recognize. Has to be clean and dry. In regards to the S22 FPS, outside of above I find it to be very responsive.

Crazy how different this is for people. Mine has been exactly the same before the Whitestone protector and after installation. It is like this: My FPS basically never works unless I breathe on or moisten my finger. Then it works perfectly every time.

Because I have Face Recognition turned on and that works well, the only times I am required to use the FPS are when opening my banking app or GPay. I sometimes get odd looks when I breathe on my thumb before using it!

I've re registered the fingerprints again and so far working good. I did a little different this time, NOT turning the finger around with each press, but rather putting the finger dead on straight each time.

When I say not move the finger around, I mean not roll the finger around on different angles which is how I registered the fingers before. The phone forces you to move the finger around in different positions which I did, but placed the finger straight on each time. I for some reason thought that maybe rolling the finger around would work better.

Working well at the moment. So hopefully it stays working well.

I have the same thumb registered twice and have a Whitestone Dome Screen Protector applied and it accepts my print 90% of the time.

I also think having dry skin on some days plays a part so breathing on my thumb results in it working everytime.

I much preferred the scanner I have on my Fold³ which is on the side power button and works 100% of the time.

I was hoping Samsung was going to do this with the s²² Ultra but sadly not.

Not to pile on, but mine is also super quick and I don't even have to give much of a press for it to recognize my prints. My Tab S8+ is really fast, too.

Awesome

Has to be a defective unit. Samsung finger print scanners starting with the s21 series work flawlessly in my experience.
