Hey, I was just wondering if it's possible to use T-Mobile's free tablet plan on a phone? Even if I have to activate it on a tablet first, that's not a problem, but 200MB/month would be awesome for Google Voice and occasional VoIP calls and internet browsing.

Do you mean use it as a hotspot or actually have it on the phone?

I finally got a mobile broadband SIM and activated this plan on a cellular iPad. Switched the SIM to my Nexus 4 and it worked, so I put it in my pocket and went to work. Just pulled it out and it said they changed my plan and data no longer works. I need to sign in and hopefully I can get it activated again, at least on the iPad again, but it looks like they aren't going to let you use this free plan on a phone.

I believe that it is tmobile standard practice to require the plan to match with the device type. For example, if you have a smartphone sim, you can't move it to a tablet. Likewise, if you have a tablet sim, you can't move it to a smartphone.

Not all carriers do this, for example I know that you can use a Verizon unlimited data smartphone sim in a tablet or hotspot.

Before I tried it, a lot of people were telling me that it would work and it's no different than any other plan. This obviously proved them wrong. :/

I think if you just get a T-Mobile phone don't know if it has to be prepaid or not you can still use data without making a payment. As people have said though I don't think you can such the sims from tablet to phone.

However when I got my prepaid phone with the sim I got a new number and was able to use it for data but not make calls. Not sure if I would have had data if i ported a number.

Since then I got a Walmart sim and I'm using it in the prepaid phone. Not entirely sure on this but when I get a nexus 5 or galaxy note 3 at some point I'll use my Walmart sim which I use now. Keeping this prepaid phone and using the original sim it came with I should be able to use data just not make calls. I'm wondering if this is because of the tablet thing.

Also T-Mobile does integrate Google voice now. But I might go the groove IP rite route being on the Walmart plan and everything.

Well, like I said, it was working when I put it in my Nexus 4, but hours later when I checked it again, T-Mobile cut off my data and told me to log into their website to change my plan. When I went back to my dad's house, I just put the SIM back in his iPad and it started working again. So they obviously know I was using it in a phone and don't want me to.
