Free Data use

"Stolen probably"

Why would you presume that?

Not saying the guys posting was probably stolen, Im talking about the numerous customers I get a week saying they got their phone from a friend etc.. Those are usually preceeded by the numerous people the week before coming in saying their phone was lost or stolen. Lol

You are wrong, or I am very lucky. Your example was correct, assuming those customers bought used phones that were PREVIOUSLY purchased from ATT. If you bought the phone new, unlocked, paid retail for it, but did NOT buy it from ATT.. Then they did not seem to care to force you into a smartphone data plan. That had been my experience for the last 4 years or so with multiple phones.
Perhaps it is because I also ran custom ROMS and removed all the useless ATT crap.
Either way I am now using a branded HTC Inspire so am "screwed" into a rip off capped data plan for the next two years. Thank goodness for WiFi!

I work for AT&T, so I know I'm not wrong. The data requirement wasn't enforced until November 09. Before then it didn't matter. It may help that you are running custom roms. My personal guess is some of that pre installed crap is spyware and that's how information is gained. If your worried about not having unlimited data, you can always check out my post and the way to get unlimited.

I work for at&t, and I have not heard anything saying this is true.

this actually is true i work for at&t as well and its to keep people from canceling....just kinda of another customer service thing....they also let you do it with your minutes
