Free hotspot/tether
tested on atrix, stratosphere, pheonix.
im sorry if this is against tos here, but this is a little trick i do on all my at&t phones.
I will being doing this on the LG Pheonix/LG-P505, so any p5xx should work. i have also done this on a motorola atrix and a samsung stratosphere on verizon.
To enable the hotspot feature you will need to be rooted, and have sql editor installed. (i know this app cost US $2.99 but its worth it if you think about the money you will be saving). if you have any questions on rooting or installing the app pm me and ill help you.
Step 1)
Open Sql editor
Step 2)
Goto "Settings Storage"
Step 3)Open "settings.db"
Step 4)There will be a couple of entries. it wont be hard to find the right one, for the pheonix you should open "secure". for every phone this is different, if you dont find the next entry go back and try a different category.
Step 5)You should get a list of names with values next to them, look for a name "tether_entitlement_check_state" or "entitlement check". the name may be different for other phones. again, if you have problems then shoot me a message.
Remember, "Tether_entitlement_check_interval" is not the right entry, do not change this. if it doesnt have a 1 as the value, its the wrong entry.
Step 6)Remember, "Tether_entitlement_check_interval" is not the right entry, do not change this. if it doesnt have a 1 as the value, its the wrong entry.
Next to the entry you found the value should be "1". you will need to edit that value and change it to "0".
Step 7) Save and exit, Restart your phone, and try to enable your hotspot/tether. you should not get any activation message or errors and should be free to use your hotspot!
Many people look down on this, but why pay twice for data that you already have? Remember, if your on a set bandwidth or data limit you may use it up quickly with online gaming, or multiple connections.
Any damage you cause to your phone is on you not me, i will try my best to help you though. You are messing with crucial system settings. im not responsible for your screw ups. Try at your own risk.
