I've had my Nexus on Sprint for a week now and I just decided to turn the mobile hotspot on.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that Sprint has not disabled this and it is free.

Thought I'd give you guys a heads up because this is a feature I gladly welcomed and I had not seen anyone talking about this.

Back in the day when I had an EVO I would root it and turn this feature on to avoid Sprint's fees.

thats cool if they dont charge you but ive already unlocked and rooted and went ahead and got the free wifi tether that reqires root but my brother did tell me about foxfi that he uses on his unrootd RAZR

Just tried mine and its unlocked also. I'm sure they will charge us for it if we continue to use it.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

I tried it on the day I got it, but then thought, I bet Sprint knows if you use it. I immediately turned it off and then downloaded FoxFi.

Do you have a download link for FoxFi? I tried to get it from the Play Store, but Sprint blocked it.

I had a Blackberry and EVO before the Nexus on Sprint. Both of those phones would not let me enable the feature without getting a plan from Sprint.

If Sprint does not have anything to do with the operating system of this phone, I don't see how they could charge me for it.

Let alone charge me for something they didn't inform me I'd be charged for.

Not concerned at all.

Free Mobile Hotspot worked on my Nexus S4G for about a good month (got it on release day) before Sprint pushed out an update that disabled it...

Better read your Sprint contract to be sure of what you have been informed of.

Not concerned at all.
Reminds me of those guys who were sure they could sleep peacefully secure in the knowledge that there government would warn them if danger were imminent.

It's common sense.

The feature has no software on Sprint's side to tell if you're using it or not. As far as Sprint is concerned it's just data (at the moment). Whether they decide to push an update or not to actually track this is on them.

They may or may not. In the meantime though "WHEEEEEE!".

This is one of the first things I tried... for me, enabling any of the "Tethering and portable hotspot" options (USB, wifi, bluetooth) turns off 3G :/

Yeah, I've been using FoxFi for wifi and ClockworkMod Tether for usb.

Sorta still looking for a simpler USB tether, using the fact that I have root.
