My N6P works fine with home wifi, but problem with free public wifi like Starbucks, Hotels...It keeps saying "wifi connected but no internet". Please help

Welcome to Android Central! Do you see a wi-fi icon at the upper left of the status bar (not the upper right)? If so, swipe down and tap the notification, which should bring you to the login page. Otherwise, open the browser and try to go to any page (like NYTimes.com), and see if that forces the login page to appear.

Doesn't surprise me. The nexus has horrible WiFi connection. Very finicky about what WiFi routers it wants to connect with properly.

That hasn't been my experience at all. At first, I was annoyed that even though I put in my order in very early October, my ship date was mid November, I'm now happy that my phone has a later build date and wasn't one of the first off the assembly lines.

Mine wasn't a first batch either. I got it on the 5th of November. There was another thread in here from somebody else who's 6p wouldn't stay connected to WiFi either. I've had similar experiences with past nexus devices too but this was the worst. Had to send it back because of that and random reboots. Waiting on a refund so I can order another. Yeah, my card didn't have enough credit for a hold so I couldn't do an exchange unfortunately.

Open a browser to see the login page.
You need to authenticate at most open WiFi locations and check the box on the disclosure.

That's because you haven't signed in to the hotspot, open a browser window and there will probably be a sign in page.

One other thought--make sure you haven't disabled the CaptivePortalLogin app.

Definitely not an issue on my 6P. I use my wifi at home just fine.

@OP - This is most likely the cause.
