If you were disappointed by the absence of SD support on this line would you be more likely to buy an S21/+/Ultra if Samsung offered 256/512 gb of free cloud storage?

I most definitely would

I think that might be asking for a bit too much and honestly pretty useless unless you're got a very high speed connection which much if not most of the US does not.

I have so many free cloud accounts I cant remember what I have. My largest free account I got as a Galaxy Perk when I purchased my Note 12.2 and it is 50g for life with Box.

Nothing on my phone is irreplaceable and with both Google and Samsung the phone specific data I'm not too worried about it. I have a WD NAS that I can get to and a local Photo Cloud that backs up every picture I take. What I don't have is gigabit access to the cloud.

And, I already ordered the Ultra ;)

We have to stop expecting them to make everything we feel is wrong by giving us "free" things. Clearly they want to push cloud storage but us to expect a large amount of free cloud storage from them doesn't make much business sense. We've come to expect a lot as Samsung has given us a lot of things but as with everything it doesn't last forever. Lucky for us there are still choices out there if we don't feel a certain product doesn't fit our needs/wants.

My point is they have taken away access to an almost limitless and fast storage via the sd. Why would i want to pay for cloud storage for the amazing (and Large) photo and video files made possible by these whiz-bang cameras? A clever marketing trick would be to offer storage sufficient for full-def to ease us into thinking we don't need an sd card.

And 800-1400 isn't exactly free, is it?

There are loads of people on both sizes of the argument for the pluses and minuses. I am not affected by the lack of removable media but I do want the best camera I can get. Apparently the market surveys for the camera and battery and display and size won out over the sdcard, MFT and charger.

Cloud storage....meh. Don't like the idea of trusting a company with storing my data. Too many times companies fold, go out of business, get hacked (remember the fappening) etc. Then network performance. Imagine trying to do 4k video editing from the cloud? Nah... I'll keep my data on local storage like my PC. The real pain in the *** that I'm facing with no SD card is that my PC will only recognize image files no matter the USB setting on the phone so I'm going to have to copy to a USB-C drive then to my PC instead of just pulling the SD card and putting it into my PC...

Sounds like a problem with your PC. You should have no problems seeing files when phone is connected to PC.

Well I am glad to see that the S21 line got bumped up to UFS 3 1 which has advantages. Not just more lanes but more reliable.

Unlocked version on Verizon should be good for Samsung cloud ?

Smart switch on the pc is a mirror of Samsung cloud , just have to plug into the computer instead of from phone
Yes unlocked model still has access to Samsung cloud and it's not a mirror of smart switch as you can have multiple backups of different phones unlike smart switch that only allows one back up. Also if you lose your device there's no way to restore what's not backed up. At least with cloud storage it's occasionally backing up your data.

True. They do that to push their bs cloud. Which isn't actually bad, but it's good to have choice.

I used to work for Verizon, hate to defend them on this but as a corporation trying to make profits they invested money to develop ways to beat their competitors. Their message app and cloud storage are two things they invested in that Samsung later offered at no charge and they blocked it.

I don't want to pay more for my phones. I saved nearly $500 on my Note 20U without trade in by agreeing to device payments.

Mirror meaning you have same stuff backed up as Samsung cloud, and yes I have multiple Samsung devices backed up to Smart switch I can restore.

You can save that way , I also save by trading in, you can always flash to either carrier or unlocked so no biggie there either.

On multiple phones I've had from multiple manufacturers, trying to view videos from Google Photos via the cloud is frustrating. The app buffers and the videos, no matter how long, don't play. Again, multiple Sammy and LG phones this has occurred with.

So excuse me that I'm not sold on a world where SD cards are phased out in phones. For me, its easier to take out the card, pop it in my laptop or PC (both have microSD slots) and transfer. No messing with cables, as I may not have a cable with me all the time.

I did get the 256GB S21, but mainly because of the TMo trade-in deal. Gave up my S9 and got the S21 at $799 off. The S20FE will stay my daily driver, and the S21 will be a spare or the wife's.

Its not like the tray takes too much space. Its part of the SIM tray anyways. If it was in a different part of the phone, sure, I can see removing it, but its not. This is a money grab to make people pay more. They are taking the bad elements of Apple and rolling it into their business model.
